A Little Church by the Wood

I remember the little church by the wood.
To think of it, in my mind, makes my heart feel good.
In my heart and mind, I go back in memory.
I think of dinner on the ground, underneath a tree.

I can go back, only in my heart. But, Jesus is still there.
When I dwell on it, I can think of learning a prayer.
I remember the graveyard, just a little bit away;
Just a child and sat on a bench, with parents, on Sunday.

My grandparent's and kin's body lay there, even today.
Someone had taken their markers. But, Jesus took them away.
I would listen to the preacher and I believed in Jesus, to claim.
From then on, I knew I was always to pray in His name.

This was days of long ago, in Tennessee, by a lovely wood.
In the fall, as the leaves turned to gold, I'd gather all I could.
All us kids would pick them up and decorate our room,
Open our curtains at night, and let in the light of the moon.

I know, when I go to Heaven, I will be a part of that old place.
I know many old friends will be there. I can see Grandma 'all in lace'.
Mom and dad will be beside them, Jesus, and my brother, too.
I want to tell Jesus, 'thank you, Lord, for all the blessings, you do.'
