What are some alternatives to throwing rice and blowing bubbles at a wedding?

We were going to use sparklers since our wedding is July 5, but they're pretty expensive, and it would be hard to get everyone's lit. What are some unique alternatives for a summer wedding that are inexpensive? No bubbles, rice, or butterflies!

i don't think they'll be a lot of people sticking around after, so that's why i wanted something cheap. i didn't want to spend a lot of sparklers and no one be left to use them! we're getting married outside if that helps.

You know, since you are getting married July 5th, that morning all the sparklers are going to go 50% off at Wal-Mart. Potentially looking at spending what 25 cents for 10? Can't get any cheaper than that. There is also ecofetti and lavender buds you could toss... Or you could get balloons filled with helium and do a balloon release...attach a tag to the ribbon that says something like "Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction." And have all your guests let go of those.

Rose petals (or any flower you like)
Bird Seed
Yall can all light a candle & hold it out.
Ring Bells

Those are the only ones I can think of & seen done. Im doing the sparkler thing too :) Anyways I hope this helps. Congrats & Good Luck!

tye do not have to throw anything, or you can get clappers from on line.

I read up here where one girl wanted to use unbuttered poppcorn.

Tops of Daisies.

ring bells - get small bells and tie a ribbon on each matching your colors - have them in baskets that the guests can grab one on their way out the door - I've seen this done once and it was lovely

Since it is at the Fourth of July you could get those little snaps and have them thrown at you feet or in front or behind your feet but there's a chince that would put little black marks on your dress. Sparklers actually wouldn't be that expensive, but it would be a chalenge to get them all lit. you could also get those little champagin things that you pull on and they pop then throw confetti out, and if thats too expensive then you could just give some to a few people and the rest can throw regular confetti

Gold and Silver balloons dropped from a net above the marquee/reception room.

Party Poppers

Have invitees, etc. throw birdseed instead, it is often done by those concerned about the dangers of birds choking on the rice. As for another alternative, throwing confetti also works well.

As your wedding is right after Independence Day, a strong possibility is that at a least some guests will be throwing little miniature American flags at you, the kind often used as cake decorations. Please remember that no disrespect is in all likelihood intended towards the USA by those doing so, they will simply be wishing you well as to your nuptials that have just taken place and your married life to be.

releasing balloons?.... not that it is great for the environment when they pop.

flower petals: roses buy at Costco

birdseed or releasing doves

bird seed is a good idea because it won't leave waste and litter... the birds will eat it!

Good day,
Bird seed or wild flower seeds...

confetti?

doves
confetti
streamers

*check with your church, some don't allow anything these days.

Maybe it's just in my area, but no one sticks around after the ceremony anymore to throw anything. The bridal party is always rushed back inside to take pictures.

Our guests tossed freeze dried pale yellow rose petals. They weren't very expensive. The nice thing is that they deteriorate just like regular rose petals so you don't have to pick them up. You can just let the wind take care of the clean up.

My girlfriend bought little silver bells and everyone rang them. Very cute idea!
