How far in advance do you start planning for your wedding?

I am recently engaged and not getting married until June 2008.. what kind of things would be ok to start planning right now and what should I wait on? Thanks!

I started planning my wedding pretty early on....about 1.5 - 2 years before hand. If you want a popular reception site then you may need to be booking it very soon. The earlier you start, the less you have to stress about! I like it because I have spaced everything out and got so much done ahead of time that I have only the details to worry about for the last 6 months.

I would say look at reception sites, ceremony sites, marriage prep (if its required for you), wedding dresses (dont have a final fitting until MUCH closer to the wedding...). You can get general info and big stuff done now.

Congrats! It depends upon where you live - if you are in a city, you may have to book some things a year in advance such as the minister and church, venue, caterer, and band. Start thinking of the colours you want and start looking for a dress!

First of all, Congratulations!

I was married in June 2007 and I was planning if for about as long as you have now. Alot of your planning depends on when and where you have it and what type of event.

It is NEVER too soon to start. I am the control freak type and wanted to make sure everything went well and without problems, and I know that I don't handle stress well so I took my time and took a long time. If you have a specific place and day you want for your wedding, reserve it now! Places get booked over a year in advance for popular months and times. Start your budget now, and start your list for invites. Your budget will help set the course for what you will be hiring people to do for you or let you know the things you want to do on your own.

I hand made all the programs and centerpieces, so I started early. Once you have your theme and colors, start collecting things. Set a place in your home aside where you can put all your stuff.

Once you have your location reserved, start looking for the vendors, you don't need to decide on the flowers or music yet, but start asking around for good vendors and contact them so that they can reserve your time slot.

Pace yourself. There are an unbelievable amount of things that you might need to do and you don't want to get overwhelmed. Have fun.

There are alot of websites that have good schedules to follow in terms of what needs to be done and when. I used www.weddingsolutions.com . Find one you like and start making lists. Your best plan of attack is knowing what you need to do.

Start planning everything now! You will need to save a lot of money, so knowing how much you will need is going to be a huge help to you. Look at venues and decide on one fairly quickly...those are the things that book up the fastest (and cost the most last-minute). Next, start shopping around for a gown. Then catering, then cakes, then flowers, then announcements & invitations, then DJ (if you're having one), then all the minutae that will be needed.

Good luck & happy marriage!

I started 6 months before the wedding and planned the honeymoon first. I should have started at least 1 year before the wedding and planned the reception first. I suggest you go ahead and nail down a date and a location. Then you'll be able to build on that. You can't decide on colors until you know where and when, you can't decide on flowers until you know the colors, etc. There's so much you can do far in advance, like planning the reception, lining up the caterer, photograper, music, flowers. Good Luck! Remember to enjoy it, getting there is half the fun and the wedding day should be the most magical day of your life!

start planning in about 4-5 months if oyu plan to have it in a church you have to go to the church get a priest and all that and it could take a while and be costly also if you want want your reception to be at a banquet hall you need to calll they and give then a pretty good advance so times it takes like 6- to 8 months to get a reservation also i would start on figuring out who you want to invite and the invitaions you want to have you have to send them 2-3 months before hand well i hope i gave you a little heads up on what to do i hope it helps!!
congratulations!!!!!!

It is much easier on the budget if you start buying things now and putting down deposits. The magazines and websites say about a year ahead of time is sufficient time to get everything done without rushing. Its never too early though! Congrats!!

I would compare prices on everything you are going to need! Start looking for bridesmaids dresses now I am 3 weeks away from my wedding and I am still trying to get my bridesmaids dresses paid up and fitted. Make sure you know who is paying for what and give yourself a time line when you think everything should be paid off. Timing is everything remember that! Oh And try not to sterss it takes the fun out of the whole wedding!

The sooner you start planning the better it will go.Things will have to be changed a little here and there.Start now to get it all ironed out so it will go as smooth as possible
