What is the most untraditional wedding you have ever heard of or been to?

I want mine to be as untraditional as possible, and I want to know what others have done!

Biker weddings, vegas weddings, cwboy weddings, pirate weddings, skydiver weddings - people have done it all!

DO what you want to do and has meaning to you personally & good luck!

I've only ever been to traditional weddings. My wedding, however, is this Friday. (It is also my 26th birthday.) We are flying out to Las Vegas on Thursday, and the next day we'll be married at the Valley of Fire in the Mojave desert, which is about an hour outside of Las Vegas. My fiance is wearing a kilt, and I'm wearing a 40s style dress and birdcage veil.
Afterward, we are having a reception for the guests (about 20, immediate family and best friends) at an Irish pub, as both of our families are very Irish. We're having some awesome Irish food, including Guinness beef stew. I think my Mom has also arranged for them to bring me a birthday cake. lol

Upon our return, we're having a Halloween Masquerade Ball reception on Oct. 27th. There will be a candy buffet, and a donut tower instead of a traditional cake. We're planning to feed each other a donut to The Simpsons' Theme. (We're huge fans.) There will be all kinds of great prizes for the costume contest and other fun Halloween activities. But, we're also doing a few of the more traditional things, such as the dances and boquet/garter toss. Although, I will be carrying black roses. Since it's a costume affair, yet still our wedding reception for the entire extended family, we're going to wear our wedding clothes again, only we're putting on prosthetic ear tips and going as the king and queen of elves.

I think we're going to have a fabulous time!

I went to a second wedding once, which was held in a backyard.

Like Shauna is fixin' to do, we went to Vegas and did the Valley of Fire thing!! It was beautiful and cost efficient, even being from Fl, and flying out for 4 days!! My hubby wore cowboy boots, black jeans and black shirt, short sleeved. I my self wore a mexican boho white halter dress, knee high white boots!! (Note to Shauna, if you see this, there is some climbing involved if you have spiky heels, make your man hold you well! The rocks are not slippery, but daunting all the same! Please contact me as I would love to share my pics with you, and see yours!!) Our photog took excellent pics, and we had them on disc, and a dvd of the wedding before our limo dropped us back at hotel!! My bouquet, provided thru the service was way beyond expectations!! Being from FL, we were more impressed with the landscape, than our bestman and bridesmaid from New Mexico, but it was beautiful!! (As of course if we were at their wedding on a beach, we probably wouldn't be to impressed with the scenery either.) The 4 of us were all of our party though, and our friends paid their own way. Our "reception" was lunch at Magaritaville, a nap, then off to gamble!! We came back home and took our kids to Disney for 4 more days.
As CBT princess said, there are all kinds of weddings!! Just look up Vegas wedding chapels and get your ideas. Use them at home or locally if need be! But, if you consider a themed wedding like they offer in Vegas everywhere, shop around on the prices all you can. If you consider it at home, compare the cheapest Vegas prices to what you might spend at home. However if you do decide on Vegas, use the bus to get to courthouse!! It cost us $20usd there in a taxi, and then we found out it is only like $10 a day for for both of us to have a 24 hour bus pass!! Freemont Street is right by courthouse!!

It's the great wide open when it comes to weddings, ya'll make it what you want and enjoy!! I got married in my front yard to my first with his grandma (notary) doing the service, and in Red Lobster the 2nd with his best bud's wife (notary) performing the service!! Pick a theme you love, or a place you love, budget, and Go For It!! Your wedding is about you two!! Make the most of it!! Best of luck!!
(Yes on third marriage, but Third time's a Charm)

mine. we stood in the river and his daughter,a notary, sttod in with us and married us. my son was the ring bearer. hubby's brother was a witness and daughters fiance was photographer. then we celebrated at a local festival -the Aynor Harvest Hoedown. we go to the festival every year and thats how we celebrate our anniversary

Just combine things that you love, I love the country and grew up on a farm I would have loved getting married in the barn or field with a pig roast ect.

They let a llama loose during the reception and their great dane wanted to help himself to meat right off the grill. The llama wanted to nuzzle women with blond hair and ate all the apples from the buffet table.

Mine!!! We did the legal bit and that was about the only thing we did that was traditional, because that is what we wanted. I'm happy to email you details if you like.

Get married in a court house by a judge.

I know of a couple who fixed up houses for a living they got married in a tile/bathroom shop!

I have never been to a nontraditional wedding, but I would love to!

I think the "traditions" should still be the same....exchange of vows, rings, etc.

But I would love to go to one in a nontraditional location...like an old fixed up barn; any kind of museum, a beach, etc. I have never been to one other than in a church and reception at a traditional hall or hotel banquet room.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I live near an Aquarium and they have weddings there, as a non-traditional setting. I think one couple got married while swimming with the fishes.

In the 60's you used to hear of people getting married naked in parks and backyards, though I never knew of anyone who did. I wonder if the people who did that are mortified today when they look back on it?

part of my family got married in an apartment in dallas cowboy football jerseys with a bouquet of flowers still wrapped in celiphane from wal mart

Well, you can have a wedding in the middle of the winter. Lets see you can rent an restaurant and have them cater for you, etc. This isn't un-heard of but you can have one outside your house or maybe rent an space and have it near a water fountain. How about near a lake? On the beach. My best friend had her wedding on the beach and the pictures are extremely beautiful. I know this is weird but what about wearing a dress other than a white one?! It could also depend on how un-traditional you really want it to be. But what would be very unique is if you, your family, and your fiancee could all make the food for the wedding. That sounds cool but it might actually be a fun idea!

Good Luck!!

er.. i've heard of someone getting married underwater, and someone else getting married in Alaska or somewhere so its like an ice palace.
