Is it okay is half my protein intake comes from dairy products and eggs? |
I only eat/drink low fat(usually non-fat) dairy products, and I only eat egg whites. I don't eat meat anymore(except for fish about twice a month.) So the rest of my protein comes from whole wheat breads, pastas, veggies, beans, etc. I was just wondering if the 50:50 ratio was okay. Its fine where ever the protein comes from as long as you are getting the right amount of nutrients. It sounds like you have an overall healthy diet. Are you a beginner? Welcome. If you're a vegetarian it's perfectly ok. and your food intake sounds quite healthy. :) Well to be completely honest (and backed by research), dairy isn't all that healthy. The less of it you consume, the better. If you must consume dairy, consume skim-milk based dairy that comes from organic dairy cows. Non-organic dairy contains hormones, pesticides, pus from the cow's udders being consistently milked and hurt, antibiotics... the list goes on. Not only that, but research has linked daily dairy consumption to diabetes, high cholesterol, and other health problems. Organic dairy can help eliminate the hormones, pesticides, and antibiotics, but it can't eliminate the negative health implications. It's best to eat dairy in limited quantities and opt for organic dairy products. Better yet, try some of the dairy alternatives that are just as packed with protein - soy milks, soy smoothies, so yogurts, soy cheeses - many are just as delicious, much healthier, and guilt-free. Good luck! your diet sounds quite healthy. plenty of protein and a good balance of amino acids. You obviously know what you are doing and have done some studying about nutrition. About the only thing I can add is watch you B vitamins and fat soluble A & K to make sure you get enough Lentils are a great source of protein and can be prepared in almost endless ways. |
