Would you work some place that was completly against your beliefs?

I want a summer job, not that I really need the money too much, I just sort of want one. But the only jobs I can get around here since I'm still only 17 are at fast food places. I'm against fast food restaurants not only because I'm vegan and wouldn't want to work around meat, but also because I think they're the reason Americans have such a large obese population.
There are other places I'd rather work, like the video store or the movies, but you have to be 18 to work there or practically anywhere else.
So I'm not sure what to do. Should I just get a job at a fast food place for now or should I wait till I'm older to get a job at a place I'd feel more comfortable at?

I really want to do volunteer work. I had already looked in to and filled out an application to go volunteer at the humane society over here, but unfortunatly my mom said no. So since I can't drive, I can't do it. She said it was a waste to help out if I'm not getting paid.

I think I'll look more in to baby sitting and light house keeping jobs and hopefully I'll find something.

If you're just looking for something to do and not a steady income, you could babysit, mow lawns, even get your lifeguard license and work at a pool. Try asking your parent's friends, extended family and friends of the family if they need anyone to do housework, babysit, mow the lawn, help care for pets, house-sit, etc.

Moe lawns, rake leaves, walk dogs, garage sale, etc

I've worked about 12 such places so far, and did so only because it was civil service and paid my medical and dental benefits.

Keep what you beilieve, try to compromise with the manager about the job, try not working in the kitchen, try working as a cashier. If you find a job that is not a fast food resturant and you're interested that allows under 18 workers work there.

Just keep looking until you find something you like-you have the rest of your life to be miserable at a job you hate but need!

If you really don't need the job, then I would wait.
It's not only because of fast food outlets that people are obese. It's their eating habits at home ot wherever.
Keep looking elsewhere as you may get lucky.

There are other things you can do if you don't need money. For example, volunteer at an animal shelter or something like that. What you'll get is a good experience and references for future jobs.

There are lots of places to work. How about sacking at the grocery store? Life guard at the pool? Use your imagination, you'll find something that won't bother your sensibilities.

I'm with ya gir;, Having the same prob here. That makes us too picky but oh well. Look for vegan restaurants around your area or health food store. Unlucky for me we don't have any aound here. Wish you the very best.

There are a lot of employers that will hire a 17-year old that are not fast food restaurants. If you don't believe in them, you won't be a good employee. Better to keep looking in other places for a job. As long as you are responsible and present yourself well, you should be able to find a job without a problem. Good luck.

Maybe there is something you could do that would involve other people in the community and in promoting veganism.
Start a community garden if there is some land available.

Hopefully you'll find a job that does not contribute to the misery of animals.
