How can i be sure the vegetables i eat aren't full of tiny critters?

Erin B, you're so rude!!!Don't bother answering my Qs. I blocked you. Of course, i wash them. Even at restaurants, i still find their salad has insects. Why don't you go spoil somebody else's day?

1. Take all the fruit/vegetables you need to wash and place them on a counter near a sink.
2. Place a colander in the sink if you like.
3. Turn on warm/cool water. Don't use hot or freezing cold water.
4. Run the fruit/vegetables under the water. If you have some kind of brush to clean with, you may wish to use that for certain items, such as potatoes, which have been growing in soil.
5. Make sure there isn't any dirt or other items left on your fruit or vegetable.
6. Cut off any bad spots.
7. Use soap if you like. [FDA and others DO NOT recommend using soap or detergent. This just adds more contaminants!] Some health food stores sell special preparations that are made from biodegradable, foodsafe detergents that help to clean the fruit and vegetables with the minimum of scrubbing. To save money, and to protect the environment (by limiting extra packaging) you really can just use any kind of soap for washing vegetables and fruits. Just rinse well.

Wash them thoroughly.

I suppose rinsing them or washing them with veggie wash, is too obvious an answer?

All foods have microorganisms on them. They are perfectly harmless.

As for larger critters, just inspect everything properly before you cook or eat it. They may be disgusting, but in the majority of cases they are not going to harm you.

You could buy your fresh veggies and wash them yourself. But I don't think you'll ever be sure that your not eating tiny critters

Wash them and what kind of restaurant's do you go to ?

It's always best to wash all of your vegetables in clean, running water using a colander. If you want more protection, you can soak your veggies in a weak solution of bleach (1 tbs bleach per gallon of water) for 5 minutes, then rinse with water. There are commercial veggies washes available, but I feel that a bleach solution is much more reliable and cheaper. Bleach will kill most bacteria and protozoa and at this dilution, won't affect the taste or quality of your veggies. I use it whenever I wash veggies that I intend to eat raw like salads.

You can't. But at least you're doing everything you can, right?

Troll.

BTW, I don't eat plain vegetables, ever. I eat pizza, burritos, and pasta, it just doesn't contain blood, pus, sh*t, and steroids.

I dont think you'll ever know but to prevent it you should wash and rinse the vegies off...

Wash them well. I buy mostly all organic produce (as much as possible) I check them very carefully and wash them well.

There are so many tiny critters in the environment, in the air that you breathe, the water you drink...

Microscopic critters the size of a virus are everywhere, there are bacteria in most food, most of it beneficial to us as it is ingested it helps to break down the food.

So I wouldn't too much about the critters, I am always more concerned about what's sprayed on the produce, or what's added to the food. It may help you to realize that when vegetables are cooked the critters are destroyed, albeit along with helpful enzymes and vital nutrients. We just do the best we can sometimes.

Buy a good microscope.

try washing them under water.
