What is the best way to get pesticides off of my veggies?

I seem to remember hearing things of soaking them in lemon juice mixed with water, but cant remember how much or if this solution affects the taste.

yeah, i thought of organic but don't always have the time or money to shop for them

There is no way to completely eliminate them, but you can get the majority off with a solution of hydrogen peroxide (food grade) and water. I make a mix of 1/3 hp (the food grade is 35% and super concentrated-use caution, it can burn your skin if not diluted). 2/3 water. I mix it in a spray bottle and spray it on, let it sit a few minutes, and rinse well. I grow most of my own veggies, but on occaision buy something that doesnt grow in my area. I prefer organic. Fruits and vegs absorb the pesticides as they grow, so there is no way to get rid of them all. You can remove wax from apples and cucumbers with a paste of baking soda and lemon juice (fresh) Just rub it on, buff with a paper towel, and rinse well.

You make the time to shop organic and you prioritize regarding the money to do so.

You can't get rid of residual pesticides by soaking anything if they pesticides have been taken up into the veggies, and they do get taken up into the veggies.

If they don't rinse off, then the pesticides are "systemic". which means the pesticides are INSIDE your veggies. Farmers have been using systemic pesticides as long ago as 1980s which is probably before you were born. Obviously trying to get systemic pesticides out is like trying to wash off the chlorophyll which is not possible. If you don't go organic then you are eating the systemic pesticides.

You can soak them in vinegar, which is probably the most simple way, or there is a substance called Fit that you can buy at the grocery stores.

Grow your own.

hey pj,

I've always used white vinegar in a spray bottle. I spray the veggies then let sit for about 5mins then rinse in cold tap water. You can also use hydrogen peroxide (3%) then rinse well. I prefer vinegar.
