What are ways to add flavor to tofu without addding so much fat and calories? |
i want to try adding tofu to my diet and the ways to prepare it sounds good but im trying not to eat a lot of fat. what are some ways to cook tofu and add flavor without making it fattening? Any time a recipe calls for frying it, you can always bake it instead. It gives a different texture, not so crispy, but it's still very good. Just remember to marinate it - the longer the better! Cook it in a good oil, not too much at a high temperature to seal it. Watch what you add, as too many of the Oriental sauces have extremely high salt content, but they will add flavour. The Post Punk Kitchen has a really tasty recipe for Jerk Tofu (see sources). Most of their recipes are pretty complicated, so it takes a little while to make, but it's really spicy and doesn't involve a whole lot of fat (just some oil to coat a pan). I dunno... I fry my tofu and dip it in soy sauce and eat it with rice... is that too many calories though? a little Tamari works for me Since all the above focus on frying (which adds fat, of course), I'd suggest putting it in soups (miso, noodle, etc) or marinating it in soy sauce or other tasty marinades, bake it with seasonings or put it in your pasta dishes in place of cheese. Scramble it with seasoning (like eggs), use silken in smoothies, use herbs and spices to up the flavor when baking... |
