Is honey that last thing a vegan is libel to give up?

It was for me. It's tough cause it seems like it is in everything from breads, to cereals, cakes, etc.

Well let us not get into semantics of how I should have worded the question but to ease any suspicions I have already given up eating honey.

Agave nectar !! Yummy! Same price as honey... without the honey :) lol
Wasn't tough for me-cause I bake everything myself

Yeah, I followed a vegan diet for a few months with the exception of honey. I mean, it's from bees. They're insects. I never really was bothered by it. I gave up being vegan before I managed to give up honey.

I believe it is. I haven't had meat in decades, eggs or dairy in years, but whenever I have a cold, sore throat, upset stomach or allergies, the first thing I reach for is a spoonful of raw, local honey. There is a small apiary nearby, and the guy treats the bees well.

It beats taking medications.

That's definitely going to be the hard one for me when I turn vegan...I love raw honey :(

Maybe its a good thing though.. it's so expensive!

Possibly.

I try to be careful about the reduccio ad absurdum of the vegetarian/vegan argument where such things are concerned but. . . with the disappearance of the honey bee thanks to all the cell phone/microwave interference (OMG!) it may be a moot point for all of us! I am a bit concerned about the crops that require the bees to pollinate for them. . .
Any thoughts on that one, Love of Truth?

Yeah..it was hard for me to give up. It was the last animal product for me too. :-)
I liked sweetening my hot tea with it and I also liked putting it on my cereal. I used it in part for medicinal purposes - if you've ever heard that eating local honey helps prevent colds during the winter....
I now use brown rice syrup and I'm slowly getting used to it.
Cheers!

I understand what you mean. As you know, I'm making the transition to veganism from vegetarianism. Today I ate what a vegan would eat. No dairy for me! And I feel great. I know it's only a day, but I'm finding grocery shopping for vegan food is not too difficult at all! I am going to have to avoid honey- but it's such a good sweetening agent!

Hopefully soon I'll be on a fully Plant based diet.

Peace! :-)

Well, you can't really call yourself a vegan if you are eating honey, so vegans don't give it up while they are vegans, they just never eat it ever.
