How can you tell when soy/veggie lunch meat is old?

Back when I was a meat-eater, it was easy to tell when lunch meat was old: it just becomes smelly and grows mold (eugh).

Now I'm finding it hard to determine whether these soy/veggie lunch meats are rotten b/c they rarely turn colors and the smell when it is a week old is pretty close to the smell from when I first purchased it.

The brands I buy are Yves, and Smart Deli. Any tips?

Thanks for your help; I enjoyed my sandwich. :)

I understand how it is sometimes more difficult with soy product.

However the rule of thumb is usually the same as it is for regular lunch meat. After one week, it is suggested that you toss lunch meat, and soy/veggie lunch meat like products.

Hope that helps. =)

Doesn't it have a use-by date? Simply don't use it after it has expired, no matter what it looks and smells like. Usually these things should be eaten in two/three days once they are opened (and in the fridge of course)

keep a pack for a week and then look at a difference in smell, texture, how it looks.

A thick pus like liquid will form. It will be either clear or white. You'll know, trust me. It looks gross!

It will turn green or get moldy. I once forgot a bag in the car and it turned green fuzz.

When the bread is moldy and you should try other brands

How can you call it soy/veggie lunch meat? Doesn't meat imply, well meat?
