Is there a brand of bread that is vegan and sugarfree?

I am amazed that every single bread has high fructose syrup in it, molassess, or plain ol' sugar. My friends said that all bread has sugar in it, and that bread is not made without it. Well I strongly disagree! I just don't know where to look. Does anyone know the brand name of such a bread?

Try "Ezekiel 4:9" sprouted grain bread.

Drusilla's right about breads with yeast - thankfully Ezekiel is yeast-free and it does not need sugar to feed the yeast. Breads with yeast do need sugar to feed the yeast.

Ezekiel 4:9 is 100% vegan, and is a blend of grains that are a complete protein! You can find it in health food stores like Whole Foods (freezer section) or Trader Joe's (in the bread area). Stores like Dominick's/Safeway and Jewel Osco/Albertsons have Ezekiel 4:9 in the freezer section with organic food or health food usually.

I high recommend Ezekiel 4:9.

You need some kind of sugar to feed the yeast. Your friend is right.

Ezekiel is great, but there are many other sprouted and wheat free breads to choose from. When you go to the health food store look for a fridge or freezer full of bread. That's where they keep the good stuff. There's tortillas, english muffins, and everything. There's also kamut, millet, and other grains that make bread in varying textures. Some sugar is naturally occuring with some grains, but your slice shouldn't have more than 1g sugar.

Whole Foods Stores and small health shops usually have a bread freezer, but you can't find anything worth eating at the grocery store. Trader Joe's (the best if you're health conscious and not rich!) has some good sugar free/gluten free breads that are not frozen, but they are not as high quality as Ezekiel.

Bread doesn't need sugar.........and I totally agree with you about the high fructose corn syrup. It is extremely tough to find any bread that doesn't have it.
I eat Ezekiel Sprouted Bread........Diabetic friendly, gluten free and no flour. Here's their website:

Yes...Simple... Make your own Its easy and delicious.
A bag of wholemeal flour, some dried yeast, warm water, add what you want, nuts etc, and whack it in the oven. Eat some when its warm and I guarantee you wont buy bread again. Back to the old days when things weren't added.
