I am thinking of taking the vegan lifestyle. Also, how does eating dairy products hurting animals? Wool and silk are animals products. But, I don't think they're so bad because when you cut the wool from the sheep you aren't hurting the sheep. What about silk? Please explain. I'll take your original question....
You have already answered it, yourself. Eat fruits and veggies. That's it. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "how?"
Don't eat meat. Do eat fruits and veg. They have everything you need from food. Yes, everything. The healthiest diet you can have is to eat exclusively f & v. I have nearly made that transition myself(still a tiny amount of nuts sometimes, but they are fading out), and my health is fantastic, my muscle tone is good, and my stamina is better than when I was in high school. I have have doing this for the last 4-5 years, and I am 33 years old.
Fruits have as much protein per calorie as human breastmilk. Veg have even more. They both have enough fat. Our supposed protein and fat requirements are way overblown in this country, and everyone REALLY needs to stop making these two nutrients the ones that they worry about most(or even at all), considering that most Americans have these in EXCESS. It's ridiculous how much I see this. I eat many meals entirely of fruit, and get about 2600 cals/day. But you can eat as much as you want.
F & V have the water, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes that you were lacking with meat. And you no longer have an excess of protein and fat, which anyone who eats a significant amount of meat will have.
As for the B12 issue, I gave a long detailed answer to someone about this. Click on my profile, and you can easily find it.
No other food will have nearly the vitamin and mineral variety that f & v have. Beans, nuts, grains, and everything else is inferior to them, nutritionally speaking.
If you ask me, most vegans actually don't eat enough f & v. And I think that the ones who DO tend to be the ones that look the best(not the ones that people think look like they are about to die). If you are thinking of doing it this way, then I think you are ahead of the curve. Good luck.
I'll let other people answer the other questions. That one was my area of expertise. humus, can give you protein! PROTEIN

All supermarkets produce lists indicating which of their products are animal-free. Ask for a copy - you鈥檒l be surprised at how much is on offer. You get good fats, protein and carbs from beans, lentils, soy products and nuts and seeds. It is way more healthy for you to eat these things rather than meats as they are more digestible and do not linger in your gut for days weeks or years. (Did you know that the average adult carnivore has 10 pounds of un-digested red meat just sitting in their gut?)
Some dairy farmers give their cows steroids and other things to force them to produce more milk to keep up with the demand. All those extra chemicals are then transferred into the finished product and consumed by us.
As for wool and silk, I have no problem with them at all. http://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2007nl/a...
Easy Peesy..really. Once you have shaken off THE PROTEIN MYTH you'll find eating Veggie or Vegan wonderfully simple, healthy & fun.
On Wool & Silk
WOOL: Yes they just shaved (giving them a haircut) but there are other practices in the wool industry that is considered cruel.
http://www.peta.org/MC/factsheet_display...
There are many wool alternatives on the market now. Both in yarn & ready made clothing forms.
SILK: Normal Coccon harvesting kills the silk worms but there are groups that do not.

These are descisions we all have to make on our Paths. I can not call myself a true Vegan because I do wear leather shoes. WHY? I have feet problems & the shoes I can get for it are leather. Stuck in a catch -22.
Slaint茅 (to your health) eating/drinking dairy products supports the veal industry, sheep are actually hurt when people harvest their wool (watch the peta videos)...
as for proteins, eat nuts, soy, tofu, quinoa, edamame, nori, kelp, or hemp :) It's a moral choice. It is definitely better to milk animals than to kill them, but some people say it's still cruel. It's up to you.
I wouldn't worry about vitamins and proteins. As long as you eat a diverse array of fruits and vegetables, you should get your vitamins, and beans and nuts should be enough protein. eat plenty of legumes Diet: Eat lots of legumes (beans) for protein, along with the wonderful supply of soy "meat". Drink enriched soymilk for calcium and make sure to take a multivitamin and calcium supplement.
Wool: Sheep are genetically bred to produce more skin, which means more wool. A lot of our wool comes from places like Australia, where the sheep are exposed to extreme heat with the added temperature of extra wool. Also, come spring time your favorite wool supplier also makes his money buy selling babies (aka- lamb chops).
Silk: The silk worms are boiled alive to separate their bodies from the cocoon. I wouldn't want to be boiled alive, would you? There are plenty of alternatives out there, so you don't need to support one that promotes violence. Way to go on going vegan! We worry that were not getting enough iron without meat, but I have found that my B12 is great, so is my iron levels. Just my ferritin is low as a vegan for nearly 3 years. I drink soy milk everyday and have started taking spirulina to help with my anemia. We actually don't need that much protein, infact you can get protein poisoning, like a person I know. She ate too much tvp.
There are many ways to get a balanced diet, right now I'm trying flaxseed oil and chickpeas every morning to prevent cancer. The Dole website (nutrition institute, food facts a-z) tells you what natural foods provide what vitamins, minerals, and proteins. I do know that quinoa is a grain that is also a perfect protein. It's easy to cook and cheap to buy. You rinse it well and cook it just like rice. I don't believe that wool or silk hurts the animals at all since they are not harmed to obtain it. To me, that's like cotton. It comes from a living source but harvested in a sustainable way. You can get the nutrients you need by eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains. See http://www.tryveg.com/cfi/toc/?v=08sourc... for veg sources of protein, iron, and calcium.

Hope this helps! http://www.whfoods.org/nutrientstoc.php Why do you want to go vegan if you don't have the beliefs behind it? That makes no sense.
Cow's milk is breast milk for her calf. The calf which is taken away to become veal if he's a boy, and to go back into meat/dairy if she's a girl.
Silk comes from steaming silkworms.
Wool: http://www.downbound.com/Wool_s/271.htm 1. You don't. We are carnivores, not herbivores. Check out the differences in teeth, digestive systems, and the ability to digest plant cell walls to access the nutrients inside. We can't, because we lack the bacteria which produce the enzyme cellulase, which breaks down plant cell walls. So we miss most of the nutrients from the plants that we eat.
2. Silk is produced by insect larvae, called silkworms, and harvesting it does not hurt them. |
