What is better vegetarian or meat eating?

I am in class and i am doing a research project on which is more cost effective and which is better for you.

humans are born omnivore

you can choose to be carnivore or herbivore just like animals

most vegetarians that dont eat meat are plain dumb retarded people that think its murder, its something that poops or will rot inside your stomach

HEY !
havent they heard something called "pooping" ?
maybe their poop is green !?!?!?!

or they love animals
try being infront a hungry tiger or shark..
will they be vegetarian ?

lol

youve got one life, LIVE IT !

i think vegetarian is better than meat.it is because vegetarian food is definitely healthy but meat has high cholestrol and fat that is not very important for our body.according to the Hindu custom,by being vegetarian we can control our senses and desires.and another thing is we are not killing an animal by eating its meat which is actually a sin.

Cost effectiveness- in some areas of the world, meat is a luxury item, and for them, obviously, a plant-based diet is more cost effective. Here in North America where you can get a burger at a fast food joint for $1, it's pretty cheap to eat- not to eat well, but to eat.
Health-wise- Both a meat-eating diet and a vegetarian diet can be healthy or unhealthy depending on how much effort you put into it. Vegetarians are at reduced risk for some health problems including heart disease and diabetes.

Overall, I would say a healthy, well-balanced vegetarian diet would cost about the same as (or slightly less than) a simiar diet that includes meat, and the vegetarian diet would be somewhat better for your overall health. << my opinions only.

*Chicken prices here (Atlantic Canada) were pretty obscene when I was eating meat. 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts would cost me about $8 generally.

There is more than enough food in the world to feed the entire human population. So why are more than 840 million people still going hungry?

Meat-based diet is partly to blame, as land, water, and other resources that could be used to grow food for human beings are being used to grow crops for farmed animals instead. According to a recent report by Compassion in World Framing, "crops that could be used to feed the hungry are instead being used to fatten animals raised for food." It takes up to 16 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of edible animal flesh.

meat eating is better because it provides u with more nutrients that u need, we evolved that way/ god put animals there 4 us to eat them
wateva ur faith is

I think vegetarian is the better choice for me but who's to say what is best for you.
I would check out the website, www.goveg.com for better research info.
good luck with your project!

As far as cost effective, dried beans, bags of rice, and bananas are some of the cheapest foods available.

Average price: (prices are from netgrocer & rounded)
1 lb. dried pinto beans - $1.50
1 lb. brown rice - $1.00
1 lb. bananas - $0.40
1 lb. diced ham - $6.00
1 lb. chicken breast - $5.00
1 lb. ground buffalo - $6.00

::edit::
Prices from USDA
1 lb. lean and extra lean ground beef - $3.00
1 lb. chicken breast, bone in - $2.25
1 lb. - ham, boneless (not canned) $3.00
::end of edit::

As for which is better for you... that all depends on the individual. There are some "normal" eaters that eat well balanced diets with lots of veggies, and there are some vegetarians that eat nothing but junk food (cake, cookies, and ice cream are all vegetarian). Personally, my vegetarian diet now is much healthier than my diet before, but it all depends on the individual. Typically, vegetarians have lower instances of elevated cholesterol, heart disease, certain cancers (colon), and typically have lower BMIs (body mass index) than "normal" eaters.

::edit::
Howdy Thirsty Me, it seemed a little high to me too, but I don't buy meat so I wouldn't know. I just used netgrocer... the first thing that popped up when I googled "grocery". Most of their meats are the pre-packaged variety, so they're probably more expensive. I can also find rice and beans for a lot cheaper than their prices... maybe they are just expensive in general.

this question is always asked and the same answers are always givin. there are those who are open to eliminating meat from their diet, those who wont even think about getting rid of meat, and those who judge others for eating meat.

i myself believe that it it healthier to be a vegetarian/ vegan because of all of the diseases that come from eating meat. i also hear that vegetarains have a longer life span. while those who eat meat get a lot of protien, but that doesnt mean its impossible for vegetarains to get protien, we just have to find alternatives.

as for the cost efficiancy, it just depends on how well you balance your money. however, i do know this, animal fat is cheaper than vegetable fat; thats why a lot of fastfood places use animal fat to make food. an example of this is McDonalds and how they boil their fries in animal fat (just because its cheaper).

vegatarian. it's healthier and better for people who care about animals

the important thing is that you get all the nutrients needed;however vegetarians probably have the upper hand in many ways intestinal tract will be cleaner therefore less toxins are stored in the body. veggies provide roughage for proper eliminations of the body. most veggies contain little to no fat and the ones containing fat usually contain the good kind. this means less weight problems and less risk of high blood pressure and cholesterol. veggies can be cost effective depending on the choices made.

Both are good for you. Meat is great for protein and veggies are great for vitamins that our bodies need. More cost effective are veggies, there alot cheaper and you can eat them raw without cooking.

if your a cow sheep horse rabbit gerbil hampster etc then your better off being a vegetarian if your human eat meat and lots of it

Neither and both. You can eat well or you can eat crap with either diet. Junk foods and processed foods are accepted by both.

I think both.
But I like meat. :)

They both can be equally as good as long as you get all of your nutrients and fat content, but sometimes a lot of vegetarian foods are higher priced than some of the lower priced meat based foods. But it depends on where you live and what is plentiful.

vegetarians can go suck an egg, they say they dont eat anything living, but plants r living

Denis Leary said it best when he said " Eggplant tastes like eggplant. But meat tastes like murder, and murder tastes pretty godd*mn good."

I've never been a vegetarian so I cannot speak for them but I am healthy enough. I do work at it though, by eating leaner cuts of meat (about 10-20% of my total daily food intake, the rest being fruits and or veggies and grains) , and working out a lot. Cost varies: some fruits and veggies and veg products (olive oil for exmple) are uncommon or imported to where we live now so it costs more. So goes for some meats and meat products. We get some of our food items, such as eggs, local cheese, some fruits, veggies and grain (rice and corn) from friends so we get them at a very good price. Fish and seafood are relatively cheap though. Overall, the difference in cost is probably negligible

Becoming a vegetarian is a moral decision. Cost effectiveness is all in how you budget yourself, and the diet with lesser expenses is all in what you eat weather it be meat or vegetables.

Vegetarian on both counts.

"Better for you" in terms of health, I assume you meant. Definitely! I think these have been covered before so many times on this forum, but it doesn't hurt to mention them again. Lower incidence of heart disease, colon cancer, obesity. Lower levels of 'bad' cholesterol.

"Cost effective" in terms of purchasing the raw products in the shops. Also when it comes to dining in restaurants. Just scan the menu. Most vegetarian main courses are (in most restaurants I've been to, anyway) at least $1 cheaper than the corresponding non-vegetarian main meals. Also more cost effective in terms of production and processing, karma, less harmful effects on the environment, peace of mind. You name it!

Update: Also a lower incidence of breast cancer in women who are vegetarian, compared to non-vegetarian women.

I have never been a vegan. They say it's healthier for you but I don't think I could just eat vegetables only for me eating meat is better. I choose to eat vegetable and meat, lol.

vegetarian

bit of a tip, dont ask this question in the vegetarian/vegan section, you'll get waaay more pro-veg. opinions...

to answer your question, being vegetarian is more cost effective, but in our society and our way of life, eating meat would probably be 'better for you' but is not necessary.

both
