Does being a vegetarian make you live longer?

Longer then the average meat eater?

Well eating meat can cause many cancers including heart disease. Explain that please.

This is completely false...

No, meat is good and healthy for you.

Eating meat doesn't cause cancer, that's the biggest load of bull I've heard in awhile. Show me the proof it does before you spew a bunch of crap.

Oh, and furthermore heart disease isn't a type of cancer.

Its not the fact that you are a vegetarian that makes you live longer its the decisions about what food you eat. It doesn't matter if you're a meat eater or a vegetarian, it's the choice of food that matter. If the meat eater decides to eat low fat and healthy meat and the vegy decides to eat of hi-fat donuts and crackers with dip (the dip being the hi-fat part), more than likely the meat eater would be the one to live longer. But its not only the kind of food you eat that effect your life style. The amount of exercise you do does effect your life span .

Being a vegy that exercises and doesn't smoke and that is all round a healthy person will live longer than a meat head who does the same things. (more that likely)

No, eating a balanced and varied diet may help you live longer.

Eating too much meat might find a way to kill you though, just like billions of other things.

It depends if your a vegetarian who isnt going to eat healthy and only eat pasta no you will not live longer but if your a veggie who is doing it the right way yes you will

No, you just eat veggies a lot more than a regular meat eater xD

it depends on the amount of protien you eat. if you eat alot of protien then you could live just as long as anyone else and depending on how mch excrsize you get you cold live longer

Nobody knows how long you would live. It is a proven fact that vegetables are good for your health especially green vegetables.

No not necessarily.

Diseases like cancer are random and being veg*n does not protect you from them.

i don't think that veg people live longer than meat eater eater. If u wanna live longer then eat both vegetables and meat

Some people say it does, but it would be very naive to say think EVERY vegetarian lives longer than EVERY meat eater.

That just isn't possible; we all could die at any time, and many causes of death have no relation to diet anyway.

no, just the fact that you do not eat meat does not make you live longer. an omni that eats a healthy, well balanced diet would probably live longer than a vegetarian that ate nothing but junk everyday.

sorry but no

no

Not always because even if you are a vegetarian doesn't make you healthier because you can still be eating a lot of junk food and not getting enough sleep or exercise in a day. By average maybe but not always because some people have lived into their hundreds and have eaten meat. And it also depends on how you take care of your body and your genetics and the fact that not everyone truly dies naturally. And not all meats cause cancer it is just eating lots and lots of it especially red and processed meats.

M 90 year old granny eats a steak once a week aside from her usual meat/veggie/grain diet so that pretty much kills the theory of meat eating being bad for you..

You seem to be under the notion that being vegetarian means you are automatically healthy. That too is a myth.

its not been proven but eating vegetables not full of infection and crap like meat has yes im sure you can, and i did read somewhere on the internet that vegetarians live 7-10years longer than the average meat eater!

no idea, there would have to be some major life long test to even get any evidence to support one way or the other.

It depends on what you replace your meat with, how much exercise you get, and if you are replacing nutrients.

Depends on the diet & lifestyle.

A sedentary vegetarian who lives on oreos and baco's (yes they're vegan)
is probably not going to live as long as an active omnivore who eats a variety of fruits and vegetables (gasp! Omnis are supposed to eat these, too!) and eats fish once a week.

Not always, but it could. We all know that the heatlhier the diet, the better, so why would this be an unreasonable thought?

Don't believe these people who flatly say no.

I believe many carnivors here are mistaken. There is research data to show that Seventh day Adventists, a church that advocate a vegetarian lifestyle, do tend to live longer than others who eat meat.

"American studies done in 1984 on Seventh-Day Adventists, a religious group that provides dietary and lifestyle advice to its members, sheds some light on this issue. Adventist leadership discourages the consumption of meat, fowl, and eggs; pork is prohibited. Because eating animal products is only discouraged and not necessarily prohibited, there is a large range in animal-product consumption. Some Adventists never eat meat and eggs, whereas others consume them daily. When we take a careful look at the Seventh-Day Adventist data, those who lived the longest were those following the vegetarian diet the longest, and when we look at the subset who had followed a vegetarian diet for at least half their life, it appears they lived about thirteen years longer than their average, non-smoking Californian counterparts.1 Most of the participants in this study were converted to the religion, not born into it. There was no data on those following such a diet since childhood. However, the data from this carefully constructed study was compelling; and what is of considerable interest to me is the association of green salad consumption and longer life.2 Leafy greens, the most nutrient-rich foods on the planet, were the best predictor of extreme longevity."

"According to recent research, that was done by National Geographic, Seventh-day Adventists outlive their American counterparts by up to 10 years"

"According to a 12-year study of 34,0000 Seventh-day Adventists in California released in 2001, the "lifestyle habits practiced by many Seventh-day Adventists contribute to a longer-than-average life expectancy." The study was researched at the Loma Linda University Center for Health Research. (Interestingly the city of Loma Linda, which is home to many Adventists, was cited by National Geographic as one of three places in the world where residents live exceptionally long lives, with the other two cities being Okinawa and Sardinia.)"

thats sooo not true but i like eating meat my cuz is a vegitaren and a hate that she is

Being beautiful makes you live longer
