What is the hardest part of becoming a vegetarian?

Did you have a hard time letting go of any particular food trying to order at fast food places?

The hardest part is listening to most everyone else saying things like "Well, where do you get your protien???!!! OMG, people NEED to eat meat for proper nutrition, etc etc. This is the hardest part for me. The food itself was effortless.

The hardest part for me was and still is letting go of the sweet, succulent chicken. I've only been a veg for 5 months but I can't really say I'm fully veg cuz I sneak the chicken sometimes BUT ONLY A LITTLE!!!!!! IT'S JUST SO GOOD but aghhh Report Abuse

It's not hard becoming a vegetarian. I am a vegetarian since birth. You get the right nutrition in what you eat. You get your protein in many kinds of food. Like veggie foods. veggie chicken, veggie fish, veggie burger, veggie sausage, veggie meat and many more. Almost each meat has a replacement. You can get veggie foods in many places and restaurants. It doesn't mean if you are a vegetarian you don't have enough protein. Usually, people who eat meat until they almost die wish they were vegetarians so they could live longer. Trust me, it's true. I know many people who wished that.
.

For me the hardest part was just being informed on what I can and cannot eat. But, honestly becoming a vegetarian was not really that hard at all, it was becoming a vegan that was more difficult. You just have to read all the ingredients. At fast food restaurants you can eat fries, salads, and some places (like McAlister's Deli-my personal fave convenience restaurant) have vegetarian options. It doesn't take long to get used to it, and as time goes by it eventually is effortless for you to know what is and isn't vegetarian friendly.

Heya

To be honest i really dont find it hard at all. I have my moments when im at macdonalds and i remember the days when i used to order those gorgous double cheseburgers. But then snap out of it and remeber that the suffering of that cow wasnt worth this burger. The only hard bit of it is im pretty ill at times and non energetic b.c i dont eat enough protein and vits. Its even harder now b.c im pregnant people think im irresponsible for not starting to eat meat again for the sake of my child.

Food was not the biggest problem for me. Not eating meat, ordering at restaurants, fast food,...all of these were not nearly as bad as having to deal with the sometimes hurtful comments from friends and family members. If they truly love you and you are able to explain to them your lifestyle and why it is important to you, it will probably be more easy.
It also depends on where you live.
I live in a small, country town where people give vegetarians the same treatment as they would to a witch if they lived back during the witch trials.
I am sure that living in a city (especially San Fransisco) would be much better.

no not really. the only hard part is when i go to friends houses and they don't realize i'm vegetarian, it's a little awkward telling them i can't eat the dinner haha. it also wasn't that hard for me because i was 6 years old when i stopped eating meat and i was a very stubborn kid. so i grew up as a vegetarian. plus i don't really go to fast food places, i like healthier alternitives. =)

Fast food places are just a front lobby for a slaughterhouse. I wouldn't order a Coke at an empty drive-thru in 100 degree heat just because that means my money would be supporting the slaughterhouses. I really get worked up on this subject, and that alone is enough to make me absolutely not regret giving up anything.

it depends on how strong your will is and how your body reacts in general to the new diet.

well 2 of my friends went vegetarian and it was harder for one than the other.
for one friend, she got sick and her body got weak, and eventually gave up and ate meat.
for the other...well, nothing really happened and shes still vegetarian for about 2 years now.

Well you could try getting over you're addiction on this scale

1=you can eaily get over you're adiction.
2=you are a little hung on to it but olay
3=You eat enough meat to feed a truck driver.
which one ?

Vegetarian: not hard for me. Vegan: no reliable food-source B12.
