How do I start a vegetarian diet? |
I have recently become interested in eating a vegetarian diet but I don't quite know how to start. Can someone please give me some tips on how to ease into vegetarian diet? First, Do a little research on vegetarian diets. You just don't want to jump into being a vegetarian. First you want to know suitable substitutes for meats, because you will no longer be getting nutrients from meat, and you want to make sure you are getting all the things you need from a vegetarian diet. Yea, you stop eating meat, but there are people who stay off any food product that contains meat/animal products. That's not that always easy to do. Taking meat out of diet is easier than you think. Think pasta, bread, salad, fruits, cheese, pizza...etc. Have meatless spaghetti, meatless pizza, veggie sandwiches (avocado slices, lettuce, tomatoes, maybe raw onions, slice of lowfat or fat free cheese). It's easier to be lacto-ovo than a vegan vegetarian. Even ppl from India who are vegetarians often eat cheese and drink milk. But if you really want to go vegan, it's a personal choice. Peanut butter is also a vegetarian food. So is a bean burrito. I am not a vegetarian, though I do try to have some vegetarian meals and I try to avoid beef and pork (because of the fat content). You can also buy canned meatless "hot dogs" made from soy flour in some health food stores (and some supermarkets that have a health food section) and frozen soy patties that resemble hamburgers, but are meatless. Slowly wean yourself of of meats, fish, and all food that comes out of animals/are animal. Some veg-heads cheat a little and eat/drink milk prodcts and eat eggs. Also get informed on how to fafill your diet with the nutrients you wont be getting. its real easy. take all the chicken, fish and real meat from your fridge and give it to your friends. then go to the store and get nuts, veggies and fruits. tofu's cool, but its not easy to cook with right off the bat. Step 1.) Stop eating meat. eliminate meat and dairy products from your diet... it's simple This is what I did when I became a vegetarian: Here are some great resources to get you started.
