If you are a vegetarian are you allowed to eat fish? |
Suppose, based off all my answers from previous questions I tried to go vegetarian for lets say a month. Would I be allowed to eat fish. Just to give a fair perspective of what it is like to be vegetarian I will post a blog. Starting tomorrow, I don't however want to be vegan. Sadly I enjoy cheese, also any suggestions would be great as far as recipes. Now just cause I eat meat doesn't mean that I don't love veggies. I would prefer veggies any day of the week. i agree with texaspice Vegetarianism is a choice, and with a choice comes "would", not "allowed". You are of course "allowed" to eat fish; however, if you did eat fish you would be incorrect if you called yourself a vegetarian. no, but you can be a semi-vegetarian and eat fish and poultry but no red meat/mammals.....that's how I was able to compromise..... No, fish is an animal. I just wanted to add something. true vegetarians don't eat fish. Nobody is going to allow or disallow you to eat anything. It is a personal choice. Fish is generally in the meat category regardless of whether they say they are 'pesci-vegetarians'. Nope, if you do, veggie cops will come and get you. But seriously, you can eat anything you want. It's just that you cant call yourself a vegetarian AND eat fish. Because vegetarians dont eat animals. Fish is an animal. You become a vegetarian by choice not by some arbitrary allowed rules. It depends on what type of Vegetarian you want to be. A true Vegetarian doesn't eat any meat at all. I think to call someone somekind of vegetarian who eats meat is a misnomer cause vegetarians don't eat meat. and Fish is a meat. I was a near vegetarian for quite a while before I became a true vegetarian.. i dont believe so because its meat strictly speaking who eat fish can not be called vegetarians. but the brahmins in Bengal eat fish and call them jalapushpas and they don;'t regard-eating eating fish as non vegetarian.THEY MAY BE CALLED FISHARIANS. no...a vegetarian is a person who doesn't eat ANY meat. Fish is meat. Just not red meat. Well you are ALLOWED to eat anything you want. Vegetarians CHOOSE not to eat meat. vegetarianism is a self-regulated choice of diet yes u can seafood is allowed unless ur vegan and some chicken is allowed i love sea food their are many different levels of vegetarianism.....the highest level is what is called a vegan...only eats vegetables and fruit...they don't even eat anything related to animals....then you have those that will eat eggs and cheese but no meat...then you have those that eat fish, poultry, eggs and cheese but no other meat.....but vegetarianism is not like a religion....you can eat what you want or be what ever level you want to be.... No fish. Nothing with a face. Fish are animals....vegetarians do not eat animals. Many cheeses are not vegetarian friendly as well...so you have to look for cheese that has no animal rennet If you don't eat red or white meat but you eat fish that makes you a piscetarian, not a vegetarian. If you are a vegetarian for moral reasons - ie you believe eating animals is wrong - then eating fish surely goes against those morals? There's also nothing wrong with enjoying cheese - as a veggie getting sufficient protein is more difficult and cheese is an excellent source. Don't sacrifice your health for your ideals. You are "allowed" to eat anything you want. There are no rules. You can be as vegetarian as you want. Eat what you want hun its just a name. If ya gonna be a strict veggie they dont tend to eat fish no breathing animal with a face. good luck though.. cause i wouldnt be able to give it up sadly if you are a pesco-vegitarian then yes You are allowed to eat whatever you want. Id say it depends on why you want to be a vegetarian. If its simply because you dont like the taste of certain meats then dont bother calling yourself a vegetarian - just stop eating those certain meats. If its something you do because you feel you need to (ethical/religious/health reasons) then you will either choose to or choose not to eat fish based on why you want to be a vegetarian. If your reasons are ethical then i would not suggest eating fish. It's not a religion, and you make your own personal choices. Enjoy what you want and stop worrying about labels. Call yourself a vegan if you want. Call yourself a widget if you want. Then make the choices you want to make... ignore what others try to tell you to do. Think about what you're asking here. its up 2 you strict veggies eat no fish but is you cant resist tuna or whatever then i guess you are still a vegeterian even if you eat fish |
