What do you put on a vegetarian sandwich? |
I am making sandwitches for a college pot luck. A few of my class mates are vegitarian. I have ham sandwitches and turkey sandwitches. I am trying not to get fancy because I am on a low buget. What can I do for the Vegitarians. Please Help i used to have a vegetarian girlfriend! If they said "vegetarian" and not "vegan," don't worry about vegans -- really. There's enough of a distinction that they would've told you if it was necessary, and a lot of vegan stuff is, well, often not that appealing to non-vegans. Pimento cheese sandwiches are pretty and not expensive to make ($5 tops for a whole bunch of sandwiches.) Grind or chop a small jar of pimentoes and a block of sharp Cheddar cheese. Add enough mayo or Miracle Whip to bind the whole thing together, then season with a dash of sugar and a bit of minced onion. alfalfa sprouts A can of re-fried beans mixed with some taco sauce, a little garlic powder &/or celery powder, oregano, chili powder etc.--whatever herbs you have to kick up the flavor. (Check for salt to taste, the beans are frequently low salt.) Top the bean spread with thin sliced peeled apples and another slice of bread. Use the same bread you are using for the other sandwiches, put a little margarine on the bread to keep the spread from making the bread soggy. Or, put the bean spread on crackers. Better have extra, though, because the ham and turkey-ers will want some, too. If you want to identify the bean spread sandwiches for all, put a seedless grape on a toothpick in each one. thin slices of cucumber, carrot, tomato, boiled potato, shredded cabbage, onion . take any two to three of above vegetable arrange this on one of the bread slice and add some tomato ketchup and cover it with another slice of bread where you can spread some margarine. One of the best sandwiches I ever had in Europe was nothing but veggies (tomato, cucumber, shredded carrots, egg plant) with a little olive oil. My all time favorite remains plain tomato-no mayo; otherwise, there is always peanut butter and jelly. Double Homous Sandwiches I don't eat meat. My favorite sandwiches are mozzerella with tomato, or american cheese with every kind of topping from lettuce and tomato to pickles and olives. Yes! Avacado is good. Hummus and sprouts are great too. Mmmmm! How about just lettuce and tomato sandwich, or how about going to a health food store and buy something from Worthington foods and make a sandwich from Vega meat. sliced cucumber, tomato and advocado on wheat bread. you can put: PLEASE make sure you include a protein component in the sandwich. The veggies are all good ideas but vegetarians and vegans also need protein and a plain veggie sandwich is not filling. Many of the options listed above are great. To summarize: Avocado and sprouts, red onion, tomato, lettuce. you really need to find out if they even eat cheese or not....some vegetarians do not!! Ask and then use some of the great ideas people have given you!!! hummus and whatever sliced vegetable you like Some vegetarians don't eat any dairy products. They are called vegans. It is safe to make all vegetable sandwiches. You could have some sliced cheese on another platter in case some vegetarians would like to add cheese to their sandwich. There is also soy cheese for vegetarians who don't eat regular dairy products. Anything except meat, silly. You can try lettuce, tomato and red onion or Avacado, sprouts and cheese. I've found that a lot flavor missing from meat on a vegetarian sandwich is made up for with a slather of spicy mustard. Good luck. |
