What are your opinions on a VEGETARIAN diet?

Is it healthy and what about the moral, spiritual reasons for vegetarianism. What do you folks think?

A vegetarian diet provides everything your body needs. Meat is rotting flesh from the moment the animal is killed so it actually putrifies as your body tries to digest it.
Morally, a vegetarian diet is natural when you consider how animals are treated.
Spiritually, meat eating is unacceptable. Vegetables and fruits are offered with love before eating.
I have been a vegetarian for many years and am very healthy.

Definitely healthy. My mom has been doing it for decades and by now, she looks like my WAY younger sister.

If you can do it, more power to you. Me, I gotta have my double bacon cheeseburgers.

To make real spiritual advancement, there is no question that a vegetarian diet must be accepted, the unhealthy ingestion of dead animal flesh that is saturated with chemicals and preservatives is degrading.

The next reason for being vegetarian is to consider the amount of fear and suffering that animals experience in the slaughter industry. There are countless stories of how in fear cows cry, scream, and sometimes fall down dead while inside or even before they are taken into the slaughter house. Or how the veins of dead pigs are so big that it shows they have practically exploded from the fear the pig felt and the adrenalin that was produced while it was being led to slaughter.

This certainly causes an immense amount of violence to permeate the atmosphere, which goes out and falls back on us in some form. Furthermore, the adrenalin and fear in the animal also produces toxins which then permeate the body of these animals, which meat-eaters ingest.

People who consume such things cannot help but be effected by it. It causes tensions within them individually, which then spreads in their relations with others. Meat eating is not only unhealthy but is also unclean.

Another factor for being vegetarian is karma. As the second law of thermodynamics states, for every action there must be an equal and opposite reaction. On the universal scale this is called the law of karma, meaning what goes around comes around.

This affects every individual, as well as communities and countries. As the nation sows, so shall it reap. This is something we should take very seriously, especially in our attempt to bring peace, harmony, and unity into the world. If so much violence is produced by the killing of animals, where do you think the reactions to this violence goes? It comes back to us in so many ways, such as the form of neighborhood and community crime, and on up to world wars. Violence breeds violence. Therefore, this will continue unless we know how to change

In the process of bhakti-yoga, devotion goes beyond simple vegetarianism, and food becomes a means of spiritual progress. In the Bhagavad-gita Lord Krishna says, 鈥淎ll that you do, all that you eat, all that you offer and give away, as well as all austerities that you may perform, should be done as an offering unto Me.鈥?

So offering what we eat to the Lord is an integral part of bhakti-yoga and makes the food blessed with spiritual potencies. Then such food is called prasadam, or the mercy of the Lord.

The Lord also describes what He accepts as offerings: 鈥淚f one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it.鈥?Thus, we can see that the Lord accepts fruits, grains, and vegetarian foods. The Lord does not accept foods like meat, fish or eggs, but only those that are pure and naturally available without harming others.

So on the spiritual path eating food that is first offered to God is the ultimate perfection of a vegetarian diet. The Vedic literature explains that the purpose of human life is reawakening the soul鈥檚 original relationship with God, and accepting prasadam is the way to help us reach that goal.

itll mess up your blood!!!!!!its not healthy!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
I wouldn't become a vegetarian because I love meat.I know it is healthy especially when your meeting all the dietary guidelines everyday. I haven't
any moral or spiritual reasons for not becoming a vegetarian if I choose too someday in the future. What is important is how and what you feel about yourself being a vegetarian.I hope that you do not let your parents, other family members and friends influence your decision. It is definitely a decision that
you have made for yourself.Just like you shouldn't influence other peoples decision to eat meat and not to become a vegetarian.
Your life is your own. Please make all your decisions with careful thought and wisdom.I hope this advice helps you.Remember to be your own person,as long as you are not hurting other people in the long run.take -care and good-luck on anything that you decide to do with the rest of your life. Thanks for a good educated question.

it is a way healthier diet and...morally, u shudnt be killing other beings to get food especially when you can be living on veg food...im jain (religion) and thats my outlook on it in short and simple terms

i started about three weeks ago and lost 16 pounds and love it

If you want to call yourself a vegitarian, then be a true vegetarian: No meat, chicken, or fish.
I know a few people who call themselves vegetarians, but they eat chicken and fish.
Phonies.

I drink a protein shake and a fiber shake every day that it Vegan certified and they are great. They give me plenty of energy and have more nutritional value than you can imagine! contact me

My opinion at the moment is very open as I have only been going out with a vegetarian for about 6 weeks. I my self am a meat eater, however I don't tend to eat meat every day and I am very interested by the vegetarian diet ( not to be converted ) as I very much doubt that I could give up smoked Salmon and scrambled eggs on toast or a rib eye steak ( the kind that moo's and almost walks off your plate ). I love to cook and have been thinking up recipes day. Having looked extensivly on the net I have come to the conclusion that you ( veggies ) really need to get some better recipes as the ones i have found are sooooo Boring! I have resorted to making my own up drawing from all the vegetables that I love and removing the meat and poultry parts to various dishes. Someone please put some recipes that a meat eater can at least share with his girl friend as there is no way that I will cook seperate meals for each of us.

P.s. She says that she is happy to cook meat for me ( not that she has yet ) but do you think it is wrong. Because I felt a bit awkward when she offered.

they suck

All aspects of diet are improved dramatically with the absence of meat, everything from protein breakdown, cleansing of the body, to a 7-year minimum increase in life span are some of the many benefits. Aging is not as dramatic, the chances of cancer are severely lowered and the risk of heart disease is a fraction of those who eat meat.

its really good I like the idea of it!

A Vegeteraian diet if done properly which includes alot of fruit.. is one of the best diets!
Actually I don't really like that word diet. I rather say eating style! I am a vegetarian!
The main thing for vegetarians if they don't eat
enough fruit they'll get sick! Fruit has some enzymes similar to meat these enzymes aid the digestion. Fruit has no chlorestrol side effects.
Perhaps vegetarians should be called Fruitatarians, but the word Fruity is often used
to refer to gays! Why I haven't a clue! So best
stick with the word Vegetarian although vegetables are very important fruit is most import. As for the Spiritual reasons they are varied.. I don't have any for me! I wouldn't kill
an animal even if I was starving.. so I really got
no right to eat meat. I never cared much for meat anyhow! I know meat eaters think that's weird but so what? I do drink milk and eat cheese, and use cream.. no animal had to be
killed for these!

I went on a vegan diet when I was very sick with an immune system problem. It was strict but I recovered and now have a normal immune system. Then I went over to ordinary vegetarian with eggs and dairy. I gained weight and didn't feel quite so well but I felt pretty good. After a few years I decided I'd try eating some sushi to see if that had any effect on my low energy level. Yes it did, I felt stronger for weeks. Now I eat a vegetarian diet with a few eggs per week and minimum dairy, it doesn't agree with me. Sushi once a month.

I find that if I get strict with my diet my spiritual 'mojo' is popping. The sushi brings me down to the physical plane but my body needs it. I refuse to eat animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, lambs, etc because they are cruelly raised in the US and their meat is full of death and fear. If I eat a morsel of chicken, for example, I don't feel right until it is gone from my system. Meat in America is tainted.

Apparently the sushi is 'clean'.

I've been a vegetarian all of my life and I am very healthy. You just have to make sure you get enough protein.

Its good for you as it usually includes ample fibre. Take care to include sufficient protiens by way of pulses or milk etc. Also fres vegetables are usually rich in vitamins.

i think its great, i tried being a total vegetarian for a little while but gave up due to lack of options and i am not a good cook!! i am sure its healthy though have no proof to back it. I read a lot of article and was quite upset with how the animals are kept before the were killed and it did put me off non-veg food morally too.

You directly can not say veg. diet is healthy or not as compared to non veg. because both have ther good and bad points. Animal proteins are converted faster than veg and vitamins are more digestable from veg source.
moraly when we can not give life why should we take it?
Its a fact yet only the mother nature or super power or creater of the universe whateever you say has only the power of make a living being and after n no of tries atleast I have not heard (in real world not in old stories) any body capable of creating life in liveless
so we have no right to take life when we are not able to give one.
Apart from this spiritualy when you kill any thing or any body who wish to live then the hate waves produced for you increases your bad karme and those you have to face in current life or have to take another birth may be in another living creature birth to clear the karme of past life and a general person is not able to find if the animal he is killing wishes to get killed for his/her food or to get relief from the current life cycle so that a good karma is created. So to avoid the situation it is better to avoid killing by yourself or be a cause for killing as you want to eat the meat it is advisable to be a vegetarian.

THE MAIN REASON BEHIND BEING VEG WHICH I GOT FROM A LIGHT FROM SKY IS
ALL THE WORLD RUNS DUE TO SOLAR ENERGY AND WITHOUT SUN LIFE MAY NOT EXIST
SUN'S ENERGY IS CONVERTED TO MATERIAL ENERGY ONLY BY PLANTS
THE ANIMALS EAT THOSE PLANTS TO GET ENERGY FOR THEM SELVES.
MEAT EATING ANIMALS EAT THEM TO GET THE ENERGY REQUIRED TO THEM
THAT MEANS FIRST CONVERSION OF SOLAR ENERGY IS DONE BY PLANTS SECOND BY PLANTS EATING ANIMALS THIRD BY CARIWHORES ANIMALS AND SO ON
THE QUESTION IS BEING A HUMAN BEING AND HAVING CAPACITY TO THINK WHAT IS BETTER AND NOT SHALLWE GO FOR A SECOND CONVERSION?

Just think do some meditation and you yourself get the answer

Where's the BEEF

Couldn't do without my ration of meat. Tofu doesn't thrill me.

I think Vegetarians are very strong people and the actual diet is ok and I think they lack one Amino Acid they should take in a pill supplement.

It is healthy and I am learning more about it each day.

Vegitarian is healthy if you have a source of protein and you get plenty of b vitamins.

Bananas are a good source of protein, 1 banana contains 2 grams of protein, and potatoes, cereal, lentils, chili peppers, are all good sources of b vitamins.

As for the moral issue, I dont think its immoral to kill animals for food since plants do sense pain. What should we do not eat plants also? We do need food we can't live on just water alone!!!!

Consider reading the "secret life of plants" by Christopher Bird it documents the fact that plants do sense pain.

it is very very healthy to be a vegetarian, moral & spiritual reasons.. u will not be killing anlimals for your food. isn't it moral & spiritual ? when we can live happily with good health without killing animals for food why don't we do it ? be a vegetarian . it is good for u & for the meek animals like hen. goats . sheep who are harmless. to the mankind

Just because you are vegetarian does not necessarily mean that you are lacking in nutrition. There are a number of foods and produce that you can obtain the nutritional value of meat and diary products from. And, there are number of different degrees of vegetarian. I know some vegetarians that anything but produce. I know some vegetarians that eat fish. I know some that drink milk and eat eggs.

Everyone has there own, personal, reason for not eating meat. The majority of them do it because they do not want to be responsible for the death of another living creature.

Live your life causing the least harm...don't need to eat animals to survive...so find an alternative. Do your homework, so you get the right nutrition...and smile alot.

It's a great way to lose weight, but you're not getting the proper proteins. As long as you have protein, you should stay healthy. I'm not a vegetarian, but my neighbors are and they love it. If you want to be a vegetarian, great, but get protein or you won't have a balanced diet.

This diet works! LOST 25 POUNDS AND NOT HUNGRY!?
my friend told me about it and he lost 35 pounds.

sounds weird but, you fill your pockets with dog chow. it has everything to keep you healthy in it already.
when you get hungry you snack on it. i don't know of any side affects from it, even though my friend died while on it.
nothing to do with the diet though, he sit down while crossing a street to lick his balls, and was hit by a car!

(

i believe it is more of a personal statement. sure it is healty but in my opinion nothing beats a rib eye grilled medium rare. if i dont eat someone else will. and i sure hate to waste food.

It is unnatural, everything in our body from our teeth to our guts are meant for an omnivorous dieet, so eating everything.

Many vegetarians are very pale because they don't realise they are missing the vitamin B12 from red meat - a vitamin also needed in your brain.

There are many animals that would never be alive in the first place if we didnt eat them. So ask yourself, if you had the option of not existing or having just any life and then be eaten, which would you choose?
Childbirth is painful, would anyone here give their life up to prove that it should never have taken place? Getting a bolt through the head is far less painful than childbirth but no one says we should stop having children.
