What are all of the perks/reasons to become a vegetarian?

I am interested in becoming a vegetarian. Convince me? I'd be happy to read about it, but please, no disgusting videos.

Why are YOU a vegetarian? I'm sure you're tired of this question, but I'm not here to challenge your way, I'm here to possibly join.

What are the perks health-wise?

Thank you for all of the information you provide :)

That's great you're interested in going veg! :)

The American Dietetic Association (ADA) is the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. It states: "Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits....Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer."

I made the switch to reduce animal suffering, but I've noticed a lot of health benefits. High cholesterol runs in my family and a plant-based diet has been really helpful for controlling my cholesterol levels. I get sick very infrequently and generally have a lot of energy.

I definitely recommend it. Check out http://www.tryveg.com for more info and resources. Good luck!

I've been vege most of my life and mostly it's for ethical reasons. With the abundance of delicious and nutritious food available to us these days, it semed wasteful and even cruel to me to take another life to feed my own. You can save allot of money not buying meat and you don't have to worry as much about bacteria mking you sick. Vegetarians have a much longer life span and reduced risk of breast cancer and colon cancer and heart disease.

The primary reasons are:
increased longevity
not being obese
decreased risk of heart attack
decreased risk of developing adult-onset diabetes

I'm not a vegeterian. I'm fat, diabetic, ready to have a heart attack, and I'll die "prematurely."

listen i am not a vegetarian but i do know that there is one huge perk you will be saving cows and some other animals that we get meat from in ur own special way the less we eat the less animals have to be killed and put on market and we all know how sad that is to see an animal hurt.

My son is convinced that he will live a very long healthy life.
Being a vegetarian is a full time committment.
You have to find all organic foods and prepare them yourself.
Trying to come up with tasty and pleasant combos is very challenging. You will be healthier if you do not include, artificial substances, chemicals or table salt and white sugars.
No eggs, butter or any type of meats, which includes, fish.
Let me know how it is working out for you.
Cheers!

Dont do it. Ive been meat free for 8 years and it was the worst mistake of my life. BEWARE!
