Is it bad if my mom forces me to eat meat if im a vegetarian?

I became a vegetarain awhile ago and my family doent agree with it. Everyone tells me its healthier to eat meat and fish, but I dont. My mom made me eat turkey and sausage and I hated it. I didnt want to eat it at all.

what should I do?

That's not right. Your Mom doesn't respect you or what you believe in. Refuse! She should be proud that you have something you believe in and can stick to it. It is NOT healthier to eat meat and fish. I promise you that and I have proof. Have her buy the China Study and read it. When I went vegetarian, I lost extra weight and I became a happier person! That was 2 years ago and nothing has changed. I still love my choice! Show her slaughter house videos on Peta too. Maybe she'll change.

Learn to cook so you don't have to rely on her for meals. She's more likely to accept your decision that way. Buy Morningstar Farms products (freezer section). You can buy griller crumbles so when your family has tacos, you have something to fill yours with.

Also, anyone who tries to tell you that you won't get enough protein is very uneducated! Don't listen. I'm healthier than all of my meat eating family and friends. Why else do vegetarian's live an average of 7 years longer? Studies show that animal protein gives you cancer! Report Abuse

Actually it's healthier to be a vegetarian. Try doing some reseach on it print out some fact. Maybe if you can prove that it's a better life style they will be more open to letting you do it.
If all else false..hunger strike?

A vegetarian will eat fish, tell your mom , you do not like the taste of meat and go to a website and find a "HEALTHY" balanced ,nutricious meal plan for
vegetarians and sit down and talk to your mom..tell her that you willeat fish, legumes, and peanut butter. Discuss this matter in a nice civilized manner, with all the info on vegetarians you can find..have some menus handy.........I wish you luck.........

Can you and your Mom go to a dietitian and plan a good vegetarian diet? Perhaps then, she won;t ask you to eat meat as she knows you will be getting plenty of protein in other foods. AND it will come from a professional. Also - check out vegetarian books from the library for your family to look it, if they will. Some books go into pleany of reasons why you should not eat meat. Try a book on factory farming. That should get their attention.

sit down with her and talk to her but eating vegetarian is really hard and expensive just dont eat meat

I think a lot has to do with your age. You seem to be very young. A drastic change in diet is not good. Meat offers protein that helps build muscle. If you are eating a balanced diet, and exercising, adding meat once in a while is not going to hurt you. When you get older and are cooking your own meals, then you can do as you please.

no. its not bad because she is telling u to eat meat for good

How old are you? I assume you are not a kid anymore. In that case, tell your mom you will eat what you want to eat and not what she wants you to eat. Of course, talk to your mom in a nice way because she meant well. She simply wanted you to be healthy and wise by eating meat and fish.

its wrong and she should exept the fact you want to be vegetarian.try telling your mom to take you to te doctor and he or she will tell what you can eat instead of meat so that you can be healthy but still be a vegetarian.other wise it isnt good for you.

explain to your mom how unhealthy meat is, and that you feel like she doesn't respect you or your beliefs.

You can be healthy being a vegetarian. Alot of people do it. Some old school people think tho that you have to have meat. You dont.
You can get all the nutrition u need as a vegetarian, as long as you get your proteins.
I think they should respect your decision and your wishes.

Obey or move out.

Well if you don't like meat, then just don't eat it.

These two links can help you some. It's a site for veg teens and includes dealing with unsupportive parents.

On a seperate note: learn about nutrition, cook your own food, understand if your parents don't want to buy more expensive food for you, see if you can find a way to pay for food they don't want to, and learn about ingredients. Products labeled vegetarian don't mean free of dead animal. Cheese often has rennet from the stomach linning of dead baby cow for example. Ice cream and so much more may seem vegetarian, but aren't when you disect the ingredients (even when labeled vegetarian because vegetarian merely means no meat, not no dead animal). Good luck.

P.S. In the future, you'd be better posting questions on a vegetarian forum. The memebers are mostly veg and would offer more mature, supportive answers.

try talking to your mom and tell her how you feel.

1.) how old are you? if your 18+ move out

2.) explain to them you don't wish to eat meat out of respect to the animals and you would like her to respect your decision

3.) how does she force you? if she is getting physical with you (shoving food in your mouth) then you need to call social services

4.) also depending on your age and capabilities to care for your self you could always try to get emancipated

dont eat it, but also dont give her a hard time about it. when she eats meat, dont preach to her. if you dont wanna eat meat, then make your own meal, dont expect her to make two meals.

Meat is good.

My friend's family does the same thing and she hates it! It is like telling a christian to burn down a church. It is just not right. And you can be very healthy without eating meat, meat is just good for protein and you can find that in lost of other things that are not meat like beans, eggs, ect. But the rest of meat is just bad, gross and fatty. It is kinda bad that your mom makes you do that. I mean it is not like your a cannibal or anything because you are not doing anything bad. I would sit down and talk to her/family.

Your mother should be supportive and let you eat what you think is right. Tell her it's hurtful to you that she isn't supporting you in your decision to be a vegetarian. However, being a vegetarian means you aren't getting protein, so you should take protein supplements, or eat fish, because it isn't red meat. That may be why your family doesn't agree.

Many young people in a similar situation buy their own vegetarian foods, and prepare their own meals. Your mother may accept this option.

Depends on your age. Protein gained from eating meat is the best kind and you need protein in order to utilize all the other important vitamins/minerals your body requires. If you are a teen then I don't think you should be a vegetarian because your body needs so much more to develop properly. If you are an adult then the decisions about yourself should be entirely up to you. Fish is an excellent compromise though and many vegetarians will eat fish. Salmon, tuna, makeral and sardines are especially good for you.

kinda same thing with me, but I wuz just trying to find myself, and being a vegetarian wuznt me, great 4 u tho!! and i mean tht. well anyways, i just didnt eat the meat, and a couple of my parents got around, hope it works out

Don't listen to them. When I first went Vegan my parents and friends thought I was crazy because they didn't understand it. They eat meat and always have and they don't comprehend that we don't believe its right. Try to explain to them why you are vegetarian and tell them there are other ways to get protein, (nuts, tofu, etc.) and everything else you will be missing and maybe they will understand better. If not than just be a vegetarian without telling them, just don't eat meat. Overall, its your choice.

I think you should explain to your mother- calmly that this is your personal choice to not eat meat or fish. Let her know that you don't like it and it is against your own personal ethics to eat it. Also let her know how you felt when she made you eat it. And ask her not to do that again.

I feel bad for your mom. It's hard enough to cook for everyone, then you add everyone being picky and now you won't eat meat! I wouldn't put up with it either.

It's disrespectful of her, assuming you've made your stance clear in an intelligent and respectful manner. I'd suggest you eat the vegetarian things she makes for dinner, then make other dishes for yourself that supplement what was served at meals. It worked for me the 3 years I was living with my family as a vegetarian. The key is to assure her that your decision is a thoughtful and certain one.

Your mother is concerned that if you do not eat meat, your health will suffer (wrong). You need to explain/educate/convince her that being a vegetarian is healthful and actually better in terms of health.

I do not know how old you are but you can go to vrg.org for a lot of information. Is there any adult among your family friends who is a vegetarian? They can explain too. Good luck!

being vegetarian is a really STUPID idea you're just going to get weak and small, listen to your parents they know best...

Get some info online on why a vegetarian diet can be as healthy if not more, and ask her to get you meat substitutes and enrichesd food. shell probably feel better about that.
