Does soy milk and regular milk have the same amount or close to amount of calcium? |
I'm young and need my calcium but im a veg head and i dont drink cows milk,so does soy milk have the same amount of calcium as cows milk? Some brands might add calcium. You should read the package to make sure. You can also buy orange juice that has calcium added to it. Lots of different veggies have calcium in them too.( I can't think of which ones but you should look it up!!) I don't drink milk either and I've never had a calcium problem. Soy milk is not milk. most soy milk has more calcium then cows milk i dont quite get why but ive check and thats wot it says both 30% calcium. u have to look for that and get some orange juice also so you can get enough It is not the amount of calcium, but whether or not it is absorbable by the body. Most un-natural milk may be fortified, but that doesn't assure one that the calcium complex used is absorbable. The calcium occurring naturally in cows' milk is absorbable. The largest downfall of soy milk is the lack of calcium. Soy milk has only about a quarter of the calcium, compared to cow's milk. Many soy milk manufacturers are adding calcium to their products, but studies show that it is not as healthful as naturally-occuring calcium. Thankfully, calcium is easily obtainable from other sources such as sardines, almonds, many beans, and several varieties of green leafy vegetables (like kale and collard greens). Of course, if you are able to handle dairy products, you can get your calcium from yogurt and cheese. http://coffeetea.about.com/od/health/a/s... There should be a label on the side or the back of the soymilk carton that gives you nutritional information. If it's 25% or more of your daily reccomended value for calcium it's the same as cow's milk. You should always check as not all companies fortify their milk and there can be fortified and unfortified options within the same soy milk company. Try Silk fortified for kids variety. All Silk has as much as or more calcium than cow's milk and the extra fortified one has lots of other vitamins and minerals too. I'm not impressed by the amount of calcium listed on cow milk products. Research dairy calcium and phosphorus/phosphoric acid. If its fortified, yes. |
