What's a good alternative for vegetarians when doing a roast dinner?

I don't serve nut roast as there's a nut allergy sufferer in the group, and I'm bored of doing roasted mediterranean vegetables. It's not good form to just give extra veggies, so any suggestions?

Instead of vegetarians, you could use roast, or soy.

Nutloaf

Add taco seasoning to crumbled tofu and finely chopped onions and mushrooms. Either add egg as a binder or use soft tofu add a bit of starch and press it in cheese cloth then roast or grill it.

Quorn roast is good or soy roast. I get my chicken-flavoured soya roast from a local Holland and Barrett health food store.

Why are you making a roast if you can't eat it?

tofu turkey

Worthington makes these things called "steaklets" that are quite tasty when served with vegetarian brown gravy and mashed potatoes.

Or how about a pasta casserole dish?

Do they eat pasta? Make it a pasta dinner, with the best vegetable tomato sauce in the world. Then you could make a white bean dip and put in in a pumperknickel bread, and you could serve lots of extra veggies. They're vegetrians, they like extra veggies. Heck, I know I do. Or you could just give them some lettuce to push around with a fork on their plate so they could feel like they were at a regular roast when you can't eat anything cuz it's all meat or soaked in meat juice!

I agree. Forget the meat if you have vegetarians coming.Stir fry some quorn strips with vegetables and serve with rice, noodles, etc.

pasta casserole
"chicken" pot pie made with the meatless chicken slices, diced up + vegetables
stuffed peppers or tomatoes -- stuff with your favorite recipe of rice
jumbalaya

nut cutlets, they are lovely.

Chinese food... tofu and other stuff you can find when shopping.

How about a NUT ROAST- this one is supposed to be very good:

Ingredients:

1 Large Onion
1oz wholemeal flour
1/4 pint veggie stock
1 teaspoon of yeast extract (eg marmite)
Dash of soy sauce
2 chopped tomatoes
6oz Brazil nuts
2oz seasame seeds
(or 8oz of chopped mixed nuts)
3oz wholemeal breadcrumbs
1oz rolled oats
Level teaspoon dried mixed herbs
2 tbsp chopped parsley )optional)

Method:

1. Gently fry onions for 5 minutes
2. Stir in wholemeal flour
3. Add veggie stock, yeast extract and soy sauce. Stir until thickens.
4. Put into bowl with tomatoes, oats, breadcrumbs, nuts, herbs, and parsley. Mix well.
5. Spoon into well oiled (or lined) 1lb loaf tin.
6. Cook for 35-40 minutes at 190C or Gas mark 5.
7. Turn out and leave for a few minutes before slicing.

Serve with roast potatoes (maybe cooked with lemon and rosemary), veggies (of your own selection) and gravy or mushroom sauce.

It has great texture, great taste and is THE best alternative to meat at Christmas. It's also very nutritious and very healthy! The only problem is that it's crumbly. Make sure you let it stand after it's taken out of the oven.

Go have a look there's got to be something there for you x Good Luck

Can they eat chick peas? If so mince (canned or pre-cooked)chick peas, steamed squash and herbs/whatever flavours you want (I use salt, pepper, 'lazy' garlic, chilli, cumin, coriander) to make a 'mince'. This can be shaped into 'burgers' or whatever shape and grilled or roasted for 10-20 mins (depending on size) till crispy.

you get a veggie roast to buy, its by Quorn (made from mushroom extracts). you also get other products that would go with the roast and veggies for a dinner. try doing something different with the vegetables like fry or steam the veggies to cook them different and why not put on a taste like parsley on to give it a different taste and somthing new.
