Is it immoral for vegans to have a real Christmas tree?

I had this discussion last night and I think it is immoral to have a ral Christmas tree. It is killing life for no reason, but then an artifcial tree may have animal by products. Should Christmas then be banned since it is immoral either way?

You people are not being very moral. Trees should not die for this holiday. Besides it hurts them to pull them out of the ground and replant them. You don't like it if people pull your hair do you?

Wow...seriously? Is it killing for no reason? Do you realize that new growth sequesters more carbon than old growth? So when you plant/grow a new tree, the rate of carbon uptake is faster than for old trees. When you harvest these trees, about 7 to 8 years of growth have occurred. Then a new tree is planted, this will give 7 to 8 more years of good carbon utilization. No reason? I think not. The more carbon you take out of the air, the better off the planet will be. If it bothers you so much, buy a live tree. Your gasoline is an animal by-product. It came from dead old dinosaurs and trees. Does that bother you?

I actually had this discussion with a friend of mine several years ago. Christmas trees are grown on farms, specifically to be cut and used as such. So it's not like they are cutting down forests for Christmas trees. Also, if no live trees are bought, there wouldn't be any grown, so while that tree is being grown (it takes several years) it helps to clean the air. I see no problem with real trees.

What should really be banned is any form of Christmas decoration, gifts, sales, or music before Thanksgiving.

Costco had Christmas decorations on sale the day after Labor Day!!!!! Holy hell, man, where do you draw the line?

And then you get "Last Chance" and "There's Still Time" catalogs in the mail when Christmas is still like three weeks away. Yeah, I'd say there still time, since the Christmas season JUST STARTED!!!!

The earlier they promote, the more I refuse to buy.

Edit: Oh, I forgot something in my rant. You know the 12 days of Christmas? They START Christmas day, so stop chucking your tree out on the curb 12/26 and putting up your Valentine decorations.

If you are sincere about not killing a tree, but want a real Christmas tree, go to your local nursery and buy a living tree. The root ball is firmly in place, packed and potted. After christmas, plant it. I've never heard that planting a tree was immoral.
