How can I make a charcoal grill from scratch?

I'm jerking tofu, and herd that it's beter to cook jerk this way do to the natural elements surrounding the seasoning.Anyway HOW CAN I DO SO?

Buy "fire brick" from the hardware store and start placing them in a circle about 2' around. Leave a small space between the bricks for air flow. Start the second layer offset from the first by 1/2 brick. Continue the pattern up 5 or 6 layers high. Also buy a replacement cooking grate for a weber bbq and place this on top of your brick circle. Build your fire in the bottom and get cooking.

Done.

Why the hell would anyone do it that way. If you afford that stuff just by a damn grill. Report Abuse

Use can use a thick disposable aluminum roasting pan then some kind of metal grid to put over it when the charcoal is ready.

You could probably get a small cheap grill for $10-$20 at the store too.

you need some small stones for base,
you need some bricks, and heat resistant plaster! And some heatable grill frames!
You can get all these at home hardware!
Tell them what you want to do!
