How can I substitute coloring easter eggs with a vegan-friendly alternative?

I would really like to decorate/paint easter eggs this year, but would rather not use real eggs. Does anyone know where/how I could subsitute real eggs with fake [but colorable] 'eggs'?

Much obliged =]

Hobby stores usually sell unpainted wooden ones. You could paint them with acrylic paint.

I don't think there are fake eggs that will stand up to traditional dying, but stores such as Michael's usually carry wooden and polystyrene foam eggs seasonally. You could put stickers on them, or paint them, or perhaps roll them in glue and glitter. Wow, putting glitter on eggs actually sounds pretty fun. Maybe I should do that. ^_^

try decorating some of those cute little golf ball sized potatos! afterward, boil them into a nice vegan potato salad!

you can try coloring cooked, peeled potatos with beautiful results

Try a crafts store that offers paper mache, wood, or styrofoam eggs as an alternative.

Why not use some lovely carrots to color. That would be fun.

Check out this site for clay and papier-m芒ch茅 egg ideas/recipes:

Have fun!

I know it sounds stupid but i just always got the plastic ones like 20 for a buck or whatever.. then i just get my fav. stickers and decorate them that way.. i always thought coloring eggs was a waste.. you blow out the egg and then trow away the guts.. come on people.. but that's just my 2 cents..

You can probably find styrofoam, ceramic, or otherwise blank eggs in a craft store. In pagan tradition "Easter" eggs weren't eaten; they were colored and left outdoors for the fairies on Ostara, or the first day of spring. If you're concerned about the treatment of the laying hens, you could buy eggs from a local farmer (you may know of houses with "fresh eggs" signs out that probably treat their hens well) and color those, and then give them to non-vegan friends as a treat.
