What is the difference between a vegetarian/vegan?

I don't think I would be able to survive on vegys & fruit. And I did do some research on this question and I needed more info.

vegetarians sometimes eat dairy products i.e. cheeses, etc.

vegans don't do anything that has animal anything in it, and brings the "moral" aspect into things.

You know, if you do a search of questions, you will find that there are some, like this one, that have been asked hundreds of times before...

Vegetarians do not eat meat or any slaughter by-products. If it comes from a dead animal, vegetarians do not eat it (this includes things like lard and tallow, meat broths, gelatin and rennet.)

Vegans do not eat, use, wear or otherwise consume anything of animal origin, whatsoever. They avoid the same things vegetarians avoid and, in addition, avoid things like dairy, eggs, honey, leather, wool, silk, down, fur, etc. Veganism implies a moral concern for animals and most vegans avoid industries which exploit animals for entertainment, like circuses and rodeos.

Edit to Sarah :D
Vegans can and do eat cookies. We just bake them without eggs, butter and milk. Veganism isn't about deprivation and we make some mean baked goods! ;)

HUGE DIFFERENCE.
i'm a vegetarian - so no flesh.
its easy...

vegan = no things that comes from animals whatsoever
ex: no milk, no cheese, nothing that has milk in it![including cookies..]

Vegans are more extreme versions of vegetarian, vegans have to make sure the food wasn't cooked, has no meat or dairy whatsoever in it, they drink only soy milk, etc..vegetarians aren't as careful they just don't eat meat or cheese usually

Vegetarian refers to diet only. They eat a plant based diet excluding all meat and animal by-products. Some continue to eat dairy (lacto-vegetarian) and/or eggs (ovo-vegetarian.) Some may not wear fur, leather and other types of animal clothing and jewelry.

Vegan describes a lifestyle and is more complex. They exclude all animal products and animal by-products from their diets. This includes, honey, dairy and eggs. Vegans also don't wear any animal products at all. No leather, silk, pearls, wool, fur, bone china, sports equpment or any kind of animal skins. Vegans do not support circuses, pet stores, puppy mills, zoos, rodeos, bull fighting or any other medium in which animals are used or not properly cared for as in dog fighting.

There are some animal sanctuaries that do allow the animals to live in as close to their own natural habitats as possible that I feel are necessary in order to protect them.

Often people who are vegan care about their impact on the earth and live a "greener" lifestyle by recycling, drive cars that are more energy efficient and perhaps find other ways of getting around instead of depending solely upon a car, such as, walking, public transportation, bicycles and such.

vegetarians can't eat meat but can eat animal by-products whereas vegans won't eat anything that comes from an animal
