Health Wise, In What Ways Is Vegetarian Better Than Meat Eating?

In what ways are vegetarian or vegan diets superior over diets that include meat along with vegetables, fruit, etc etc?

I've been reading through this section and some of it I find intriguing. I don't think I'm ready to quit meat, but would cutting down on it be beneficial at all?

And other things vegetarians do... whatever they do. :P Buying organic, etc

I think it's just a "cleaner" way of eating . . . if you do it right. The food goes through you with less taxing of your system and is better utilized than the things your body really has to work to break down - meats, for example, which never fully break down, but more like rot. For me, I have problems with my gallbladder and have digestive issues if I'm having really heavy, greasy proteins as in meat, so being a vegetarian has taken all of those problems away. In terms of mental health, too this is a big plus!

Cutting back is beneficial for your health, like I mentioned, but is also a lot of fun because you start to look at food in a new way and are forced to be creative and resourceful. If you like cooking, that is, it can be a great thing - even if you want to just do something like "Vegetarian Wednesdays" or something and see how it goes.

God! I am so sick of people saying that meat is the only source of complete protein! First of all, the highest amount of complete protein in existence comes from, guess what, a plant source, not from meat. Spirulina contains 12 times the digestible protein as beef. Its 70% protein!

some other complete sources, just to name a few, are

Chlorella
buckwheat
Flax seed
goji berries
Quinoa
blue green algae
soybeans(although unhealthy)

now lets see, for meat eaters there only source is
ANIMALS

Well, in theory being a vegetarian is healthier. However that is not true what so ever. Our bodies absolutly NEED protein. It is the building block of our tissues, muscles, cells etc. More importantly, we need essential amino acids, which are proteins that are body can not make it self, therefore we must ingest them. Complete proteins are only found in meat products. What I learned was instead of being a vegetarion, just eat the right kind of meat, like fish and seafood, which provides omega-3 and in tuna, provides all the essential proteins in only one serving. However, if you only eat red meat, than yes vegetarian is better for you because red meat causes high blood pressure and has been linked to heart disease and plaque build up.So the "right meat" eating is better for you

Vegatarians live longer on average that meat eaters. I wish I could find the article I read to back that up, but trust me it's true! Plus I haven't eaten meat in over 10 years, and I rarely get sick!

By changing to a vegan lifestyle you would be cutting the risk of:
cancer, heart disease, bowel problems, stroke, diabetis... just amongst a few of the health problems you face by eating meat.
As for the organic issue, you don't have to be veggie/vegan to buy organic - my family buy organic local produce (meat and veg). It is meant to be better as you are not ingesting chemicals that are usually sprayed onto the produce. But don't think that just because a meat product says organic on it that it is kept in better conditions - this is a myth.

You will cut down on your intake of fats and bad cholesterol.

VeganFrosty----do you eat commercially grown fruits or veges? do you ride in or on ANY vehicles, including bicycles? If yes, then you are NOT a vegan. Commercially grown veges/fruits, even the "organic" ones are fertilized with products from animal rendering plants and are pollinated by captive slave hives of bees that are moved from state to state. That;s exploitation. All vehicles, including bicycles because of the rubber tires, are made from products from those very same rendering plants.

If you use any commercially grown veges or use vehicles, you are NOT a vegan. You are just a self-glorified vegetarian. Which is still great in my book!

I just would love to see them sustain a vegan diet if they are diabetic. Funny huh?

NOTE: Come on, I am waiting for my thumbs down.

everything you will need to know about vegetarianism can be found in these 2 books: "the food revolution" by john robbins and "the china study" by t. colin campbell.

:)

if you stop eating meat then you wont get cholesterol because it is only in animal fats so that would help.
