Where is the best place to open a vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the United States?

Where is the best place to open a vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the United States? What cities or states do you think are most open to change, and are more health-concious than others? Which cities or states do you think would be open to trying new things?

Also, what do you think about, Charlotte, North Carolina? Is this a good place to open a vegetarian/vegan restaurant?

Please give me your feedback! Thanks!

More than one place if you can think of more than one! =)

i've noticed there are alot of college students that are vegetarians now, where I used to work we had alot of people orders items with no meat..... they had alot of students from India also, they didn't eat meat. so look for a college town

Loma Linda, California

l.a. or southern california in general, they are open to new ideas, i'm sure there's other places, but i have lived there and other states and found them a lot less conservative

I would say try opening a vegetarian restaurant up north. Like maybe in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Texas or California. if you open in texas, the city you should look for is either Houston or Austin or Dallas.
Anywhere in New jersey. Have seen a lot of vegetarians in new jersey.....

Any Place in texas :)

the best place would be somewhere more urban as vegetarians and vegans come in the masses in these areas, southern california would be perfect.

Well if you are going for open to change as far as veg*an places, Portland, Seattle, New York, San Francisco, & Los Angeles.

As far as health conscious: San, Jose, Washington, San Francisco, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Oakland, Sacramento, Orange County, Denver, & Austin.

As far as open to trying new things (besides the ones mentioned above): Houston, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Denver, Chicago, & Scottsdale.

But to me, any where is a good place to open a veg*an restaurant due to the shortage of in them in the world. There really should be at least one in every city, with two veg*an friendly grocer in every city, and maybe some veg*an oriented or friendly fast food joints, coffee houses, tattoo parlors, clothing & shoe stores, ice cream parlors, etc.

My suggestion would be to go for a place that is open to veg*anism and has no major restaurant there already.

well i dont know much bout the south but if you were here on the western part of the US i would suggest opening it somewhere very diverse because a lot of indian people are vegetarian

SAN JOSE CALIFORNIA

I would say come to Louisville, Ky. The "Highlands/Bardstown Road" or Frankfort Avenue area. It's a great Bohemian like community that would be very open to the idea.

on the other hand:
Charlotte, N.C. is a college town, so it may do well because:

Alot of people go veggie when away at college.

People tend to feel better about eating veg because it seems healthier, with all the talk of the growing obesity problem.

College commuters would likely get there parents there as well.

Veg food easier on the wallet.

If there is good food that is well presented, a pleasant atomosphere and reasonable prices, no one will care if it's veg.

any of the big city's (LA, San Fransisco, NYC, Boston).

Smaller cities: Asheville, NC, Anywhere VT, Keene NH...
