Is there a difference in the amount of calcium and protein in cow's milk and soy milk?

I would like to switch to soy milk but I would like to know the nutritional differences before I make the change.

Thank you!!

Read the side panel.

Mot soy milks produced in the west are enriched to mimic the nutritional profile of cow's milk, which itself is enriched.

But soy milk doesn't come from cows who are kept in tiny cages, bred to produce unnaturally large amounts of milk, and kept either pregnant or lactating for the whole of their usefulness. Cow's milk production is also the underlying mechanism of the veal industry, and if you don't want to hear about cow's milk, then you certainly don't want to hear about veal.

Soy milk is the moral choice.

soy milk doesn't naturally occur with calcium, therefore, calcium present in soy milk is up to the manufacturer. Most soy milk is fortified with calcium, but how much varies. Cow's milk gives about 30% calcium an adult needs in 1 glass, so you should just check nutrition labels. Cow's milk has 8g of protein in a serving. Soy milk contains 7g.

here's a great article talking about the differences in cow's milk and soy milk.

They both have the same amount of protein and calcium but the calcium in soy milk is added instead of naturally occuring. You have to really shake up the milk before drinking it to get the calcium dispersed.

An article I read recently said that the calcium in soymilk isn't as usable in the body as the calcium in cows milk. On the other hand, I've heard from an NMD (naturopathic MD) that cows milk calcium is very difficult for adults to absorb and it actually robs the bones of calcium.

As far as calcium goes, eat lots of fruits and veggies (especially broccoli and spinach) and keep doing weight bearing exercise, even if it is just walking with a backpack on your back. Avoid soda pop and meat since the acidity of both pulls calcium out of your bones.
