How hard is it to become a vegetarian?

I have decided to become a vegetarian. How hard was it for you to give up meat? Did you ever feel sick for the first few days or weeks?

It was easy for me to give up meat. The only meat I really ate was ground beef. But after I decided to stop eating meat I never got tempted to eat it because I stopped eating it for ethical reasons.I actually went from eating meat to being vegan. The hardest thing was giving up cheese. But after 3 months of being vegan I just stopped craving it.

When I stopped eating meat I actually felt better.I lost a couple of pounds, felt lighter, and more energetic(more endurance).

You need to email around some companies and visit their websites (e.g Masterfoods & Nestle) Also you need to do as much research as possable. HINT: Smarties are NOT suitable for a vegetarian diet because they use crushed beatles for the colouring!!! ehuch! I have been vegetarian for about 5 years now and now I don't even need to think about what I eat it has just been soooo drilled into me! One think you cannot do is put other people down for eating meat! We are natural meat eaters and people will end up turning against you! I don't agree with the prossess that they farm the meat. A cow is kept in such a small space it can hardly turn around! But it is up to the individual if they want to eat meat or not!

the vegetarian society is a great source of info!

P.S. wines and beers are often not vegetarian!

ENTIRELY DEPENDS ON YOU! Are you serious about it? Can you do without meat products easily?
I don't see why you should feel sick, there is No physical reason for it.

Honey I like my meat to well to give it up and I need the protein! Good Luck!

If you want to become a vegetarian it takes lots of dedication. You would need to be really strong. At least I imagine because I thought about it for about 2 minutes and found myself longing for steak.

I never felt sick. Physicly it doesnt really affect you. Today people get way too much protein acctually. Vegetable in fact have MORE protein than meat. Something they dont really want you to know.

Its not difficult if you have a supportive family and friends that dont mock you :P If other wise if you really want to and thinks it's morally right then go for it.

Good luck!

For me it wasn't hard at all. I had a craving for a cold roast beef sandwich a few months after I went veg, but it passed and that was it. I never felt sick from not eating meat.

I did it slowly. I stopped eating all mammals 17 years ago and just stuck with seafood and poultry. I gave up those items 4 years ago. I do suggest you do it a little faster then I did though LOL

If a person eats right, no matter what diet they choose to eat, there is no reason to feel sick. Giving up meat does not make you sick...just a poor diet does.

nope it wasn't hard for me
no i don't feel sick at all in fact i get sick if i eat meat

Is it hard? No not really, at least not after the first few stumbling blocks. At the three week mark I started having serious meat withdrawals. Most of that was psychologically adjusting to the fact that my diet was changing.

What is most important is to be informed about what you are getting yourself into. It is absolutely critical to make sure you are getting the necessary nutrition. Meat eaters are usually a careless lot, as meat is billed as an end-all protein solution. Often this is not the case, and I suspect a conscious vegetarian probably has a better diet than most meat eaters. It really is a cliche, but beans and rice are your friends. A lot of ingredients are not actually vegetarian, and some of them will surprise you. www.ivu.org are a good resource for learning about vegetarian recipes and general information. www.veganwolf.com also has some good information, though you have to take a lot of the hardline vegan information with a grain of salt, as they tend to resort to emotional appeals and shock to get your attention. Google vegetarian recipes to get some ideas and learn how easy it really is. Be careful at restaurants; many try to sneak meat into innocuous things like salads.

Most important of all, stay strong in your decision! A lot of people, even normally sane and reasonable friends will suddenly have some tension with you because of what you are doing. I have never tried to convert someone to vegetarianism, and yet my meat eating friends are often uncomfortable with me around in a culinary environment. It is a big leap, but whatever your reasons, with careful dietary decisions you will find that you feel better than ever. It's a great way to lose weight without putting your body through the harshness of most diets.

Good luck!

If you WANT to be a vegetarian it shouldn't be hard for you at all.

OMG! I just noticed I'm a total vegetarian! XD,. lol,. but yea I havent eaten meat in a long time, make sure to take vitamins I guess,. like Iron, zinc, ect. maybe take Centrium Silver :),. I also drink alot of whey protien shakes, there very healthy, and I think you should only be a vegetarian if the consumption of meat offends you, the thing is most people just do it to be interesting, and your gonna need alot of self control, if you like meat, then I suggest not being a veg, its just too much of a burden, but other than that its very easy :),.

I mainly eat fruit, cereal, yummy whole wheat sandwiches "no meat", and protien shakes,. it makes me feel good :)

Pretty easy. Put your mind to it. It's a lot different than switching from a vegetarian to a carnivore. Just make sure you get the fats that you need. Otherwise you may face some skin issues. I never gave up meat.

im not a vegetarian, but i know from what others tell me it can be hard or easy. personally, i think its not a good idea because there are some proteins that people need that only come from beef/pork/poultry/fish. if you still want to do this, good luck.

there is one substitute for the protein found in meat (but its not really the same): soy

Honestly, it's not hard at all. It makes me feel good to be saving 100 lives per year. I love being veggie and haven't felt any bad symptoms from it. Good luck!
