How long is too long for soymilk to sit outside of the refrigerator?


Earlier this morning (just before 7am), someone got my soymilk out of the refrigerator so they could get something out that it was blocking. The thing is, they obviously forgot to put it back in, because it's now 10:25am and I just saw it sitting out there next to the refrigerator.

I'm wondering if it's still okay to drink. I did put it back in the refrigerator right away after seeing it there but I'm kind of hesitant to actually drink it now :x

Should I just throw it away or can I go ahead and continue drinking it?

(btw: this is the type of soymilk that needs to be refrigerated right away)

If it makes a difference, it was the SIlk brand.

You're fine, just put it back in the fridge and enjoy. If it was left out in hot sun or in the car I would probably throw it out though.

I left some silk soymilk out overnight once (like 9+ hrs) and my dad drank it in the morning without knowing it had been out all night and he was fine.

oh then it's okay then cause my mom drinks soymilk and she left it out for 4 hours and it still tasted good so don't worry

If it became room temperature, throw it away. And bill your roomate for it ;)
The reason is that the temperature range in between 45 and 145 degrees is an unsafe temperature zone that bad bugs grow in very easily, even if it's a vegetarian product.

2 hours usually. taste a teaspoon of it. if it tastes okay drink it all today. It just speeds up the spoiling process to have it out of the refrigerator. what's your room temp and was the carton open- these facts all make a difference.closed and room temp below 65 it should be okay for 2 days.

Unless you have a Geiger meter, then there's really no way of knowing.

Even though leaving soymilk out of the fridge reduces the shelf life of the product, the stuff is on the expensive side.

I say do the sniff test. If it doesn't smell funky and you're still not sure, pour a little bit in a glass and look at it...if it doesn't have chunks in it and it doesn't smell off, give it a taste. If it tastes like it should, then, I would say its fine. In other words, use your judgment and senses.

I have left Silk out before and I have used the same "tests" and I have kept the stuff that was fine and threw out the funky chunky stuff.

Even if it's not spoiled, soy protein products are inherently bad for you.

As opposed to milk, which is good for us.
