Besides saving animals lives, what does being a veg head do for me?

I've already been a vegeterian for about a month or two but I've been wondering if there are other benefeits to this than just saving the lives of animals?

Congrats on going veg. Here are some of the health benefits:

Being vegetarian also helps protect the environment:

Vegetarianism can confer health benefits as long as you don't try to subsist on junk food. Read: Eat your fruits and vegetables!

Vegetarian diets are also better for the environment--the U.N. has determined that animal industry contributes more to global warming than transportation. It takes 10 times the fossil fuels to produce a calorie of animal food than it does for plant food. Soy is even more efficient--it takes 40 times the fossil fuels to produce a calorie of animal food than it does to produce a calorie of soy food.

Roughly 70 percent of the grain grown in the U.S. goes to feed those 10 billion animals who are slaughtered for food. In South America, they clearcut the rainforest to provide grazing land for cattle, but since the land is not suited for that purpose, it soon becomes desertlike.

In short, meat production is incredibly wasteful and inefficient. Did I mention all the water it uses?

I discovered all sorts of wonderful new things to eat when I went veg, and I learned to like some vegetables I had previously disliked.

It lowers your risk of heart disease and stroke; increases your chances of having a healthy body weight, healthy blood pressure and healthy cholesterol level; it reduces your risk of colon, prostate and breast cancer; it lowers your risk of developing diabetes and it reduces your risk of kidney disease. It also reduces your carbon footprint, so it's good for the planet, too.

Basically a different and usually more militant lifestyle. There isn't a single survey that shows a causal relationship between a vegan or veg lifestyle and a meat eating lifestyle. There's not a single person here who will show you a valid study with manipulated variables that proves conclusively any of the rhetoric and propaganda they will link from self-righteous activists like peta and other organizations. Not a single one. I'm still waiting for someone to link a causal study and to date haven't seen it.

I have been a vegetarian for just about all my life and i have no complaints

1. it helps you stay thin
2. you get more nitrogen to help energize you throughout the day.
3. you get more vitamins that you don't (as much) from meat
4. it cuts down on your fat intake
5. lower cholesterol
6. just recently america has had the largest recall on low grade meat products ever (like mcdonalds, sonic, and school lunchs)

It's better for the environment, for your health...

Omg dude going veg not only helps animals it helps the enviroment since the cows crap releases some chemical into the ozone that depletes it another thing it also helps is yourself you'll live 10 years longer than a meat eater! Its crazy how saying no to meat can even help with poverty and world hunger since the food they use for the animals could feed millions. And congratulations on your choice ti not only shows your a nice person but your smart either way in you first month you should stock up on fake meat products in case your ever tempted, and if you ever accidentaly fall back dont worry just start going veg again.:]!

http://www.goveg.com/environment-globalw... - read this report.

*rain forests are being cut down to make room for cows, - that get killed for hamburgers

*killing so many animals for food, when you have a choice to not consume cruelty

*it takes about 5 pounds of grain to make one pound of meat. that 5 pounds should/could be feed to people in third world countries.

* 80% of argiculture land is used for livestock in the USA

* Water pollution fron the livestock is ruining our water ways.

* 50% of the antibotics in this country is given to livestocks, because animals are so sick, and people eat those animals and wonder why they get sick?

Just kidding...by being a veggie, you gain more credibility with some of the folks in this forum.

You will lose weight, like it or not.

You will have raging gas.

You will have to drink an awful lot more water to be healthy.

Being a veggie gives you one hell of an education in food balance. I have learned a hell of a lot just by reading what some of the guys and gals post on this forum.

I eat meat, I think differently than you.

Best of luck.
