Is it against the law to wait for someone to get home?

Me and the other members of my animal rights group want to wait at someone's home for them to arrive after they get off work. We are going to give a peaceful demonstration in their driveway. I have done these type of demonstrations before and I never had a problem. The reason I am asking is because someone else on Yahoo! Answers said it was illegal.

It is illegal. It is called disturbing the peace, and if it is on the driveway, it is called trespass. Loitering with intent is another thing you could be charged with. And harrassment.

If you are on their property that is considered trespassing. So yes it is illegal.....it could also be considered stalking which is also illegal.

unless she slaughters animals at home, don't demonstrate there. besides, what do you expect to accomplish by protesting? i'm a meat-eater who is considering becoming a vegan, but not because a protester has persuaded me to become one. some protesters act a little weird and deter me from becoming vegan.

think of something non-invasive and opinion-free (i.e., pamphlets, posters, shirts) that explain what a "vegan" is and the benefits of being a vegan. set up a table (unmanned) with this info on it. more meat-eaters such as myself may seriously consider becoming a vegan if the information were presented as above.

Probably not legal if you are on there property. Ask you local law enforcement. If you do it and the police are called they will probably just give you a warning and you will be told to leave.

The actual protesting part isn't illegal... but if you're on their property it is trespassing, and could also be considered stalking.

If it is private property and she/he tells you to get off of it and you don't, she can have you arrested. But then that would give you time off from Yahoo Answers.

I do believe that it is illegal because you want to demonstrate on their property and that is not permitted. You can call the local police department and ask them. There are some public places where you are permitted to demonstrate peacefully but private property is an entirely different issue and it is not permitted. You can be arrested.

Yes it is illegal as it counts as loitering and you will find that theirs by laws about it as YOU or the other do not live or were invited, you will be breaking the law, you will also be breaking the law for congregating in a group...

Have you considered putting your time and effort into something that would reach more than just one person? This kind of protest doesn't make sense to me. You're not going to change much this way. Why not spend the time writing letters to local restaurants urging them to use cage-free eggs or to designers asking them not to include animal products in their lines. Wouldn't that be more productive?

A paved driveway is the property of the cities and therefore public property BUT, there are many other laws that could be brought to attention, such as harrassment and defermation of character and in many states have castle laws allowing them to shoot you dead in this situation. Your best bet is to keep it on the sidewalk or even farther.
