Is it immoral to date a meat eater?

As we all know, it is immoral to eat meat. However, if I am a vegan and I dated someone who ate meat, would that make me just as bad as him? Would that also make me a murderer?

1st off "meat eaters" are not murderers we are survivors as humans we are at the top of the food chain we choose to eat meat. Are lions, Tigers and other wild animals murders? I'll answer for you you would say No of course not!. We choose to eat meat because in a free world we have the right to choose just the same way you have the right to choose to be a tree hugging, plant eating tofu loving bigot!.

Does that answer your question.

I don't know about the morality angle to your question.
I am a vegetarian of 18 years and I am married to a meat eater, but I am not responsible for any of his actions. He can eat what the hell he wants as long as I don't have to.

Why did you ask it in the terms "if" I am a vegan? I agree with Rome, all Ashley's, should not go out in the world and try to reproduce. That would be immoral.

not as long as you don't taste him.

When we first started dating, I was an omnivore and my boyfriend a vegetarian. I eventually converted to vegetarianism and then veganism. I don't consider him "immoral" because he still eats cheese or stuff with eggs. If the guy you're dating eats less meat because he's dating you, that's a good thing, isn't it?

Well don't know but I'm a Vegetarian but I buy my cat regular cat food! She eats that but she also has to taste whatever I'm eating. She probably wonders if it's better then when she tastes a sample that I give her of what I have she makes a face as if to say how can you eat that stuff?
Am I a hypocrite for letting my cat eat meat products while I'm a vegetarian.. note I'm not vegan! But close to vegan!

Well, first what do you base your moral/immoral views off of? Morality, I believe, only comes from the bible. And God gave us permission to eat meat after the flood. He did however, tell us not to eat "unclean" animals, such as pork (check out leviticus 11). However, I believe that God gave us a perfect diet in the Garden of Eden, designed to maintain our health...fruits and veggies, nuts, seeds, grains. However, after the flood, there was no vegetation, so God allowed meat eating only to sustain human life. But you can't call meat eating immoral, its just not as healthy!

nah, its ok to date people who dont share ur diet. just as its ok to have interracial marriage, or to have different lifestyles... being vegan means u have a VERY different way of living and thinking to omnivores. its not a bad thing to be different. being with that person would only prove ur love is pure and that u r open minded enough to accept people for WHO they are instead of WHAT they believe in.

good luck!

I say NO, as you may change your friend into a vegritarian. also, whatever your friend does, it does not make you a murderer. and I do eat meat, I dont consider myself a murderer. I dont consider it immoral to eat meat, I think everyone has the right to their own personal diet. I dont limit myself , as I see too many vegies eating a very poor diet, which can be detrimental to their overall health.

Have you forgotten you already have a vegan boyfriend who likes to smell your gas?

WE don't "all know" its immoral to eat meat.

You're a hypocrite already if you own even one pair of leather shoes or a belt. Your logic is already flawed if you have a dog and feed it dog chow--products made with meat and bone meal. You have no reason NOT to visit the savannahs of Africa and try to prevent the lions from feasting on gazelle.

Be a vegetarian or a fungitarian for all any one cares. Eat paint chips if thats what you want to do. Just quit using your diet as an excuse to pretend you're better than other people.

no it wouldn't be immoral. your not leaving your lifestyle behind, just going out with someone who has a different way of living. as long as he respects your veganism there is nothing wrong with going out with a meat eater.

You probably wouldn't want to date someone who you thought was immoral. Besides, he would probably smell and taste funny to you if you don't eat meat. Like dating a smoker.

I suggest to you that...NO we ALL don't know for sure that it is immoral to EAT MEAT.....you have no idea what your asking or saying...do you drive a car, ride a bus, drink out of foam cups etc etc...work in a place of employment that uses leather chair upholstery, ride in elevators, eat vegan food processed using leather conveyor belts, use cell phones, computers, paper bags to carry your groceries or purchases.... etc etc.....it is impossible to be totally vegan etc etc....and it is a persons own choice about vegetarianism.....date whom you want to date.....by singling out someone (because they eat meat) well you might be missing out on one of the best times of your life and maybe even cheating yourself out of a wonderful future...

it is immoral for you to date anyone, just stay home and don't chance ruining some poor guys life

Hmmmm.....an interesting phrasing of the question. I'm thinking that if you went into any relationship with that attitude the point would be moot. Not to be disrespectful but, why would anyone want to date you if you thought they were immoral and a murderer? Already, I think, you have answered your own question. There seems to be a very small chance that you would be able to adjust to a relationship with someone who consumes meat.

In a matter of three sentences you used the words "immoral", "bad", and "murderer". Nobody likes to feel judged or condemned. As a vegan I am sure you are well aware of that. Relationships should be based upon mutual respect. It seems you would be unable to "respect" a partner who does not share your world view, which is entirely your perogative.

Find another Vegan/Vegetarian. I think you will be alot less conflicted and much happier in the long run.

it is immoral to call a meat eater a bad person. Read your own question because you have already answered it. You're a bigot by the way

Well... I don't think so... I am a vegan and my husband still eats meat. I know it is wrong but in no way I consider myself a murderer. No way. I believe veganism is A CHOICE and if his choice is to continue eater meat... well... what can I do or say????

I think by vegan law that would only make you an accomplice to murder.

ooooooooo.... did I just make a trollie cliche?

Ash, are we having trouble on the home front. I'm a little concerned.... Yesterday your "friend" was tired or ill from your raw diet.... what happed to that one? more concerning.... you are already looking for a replacement?

Actually we don't ALL know its immoral to eat meat. That's your personal preference. Judging someone by their diet sounds suspiciously like trying to foist your own morals or choices on others. I have knows several couples that were open-minded enough to accept each others choices in diet and repected each other's positions on the vegan/omnivore debate.....good luck and try to be as tolerant of others in the same way you want them to be of you!

I think that its fine as long as you have no physical intimate contact. That would be gross. Kissing and everything else included.

No it's not immoral to eat meat. Jesus ate meat, and he never committed a sin, so how can it be immoral?
