What would you substitutie milk with in a baking recipe?

for example bisquits, pancakes, cookies, cakes...if the recipe calls for milk but you have are a vegetarian and dont want to much lactose in your diet, what is the best substitute. or am i doomed to never have another pancake!?!?! i'm a Texas steak lover here, but my two oldest (8 and 9) have decided to be vegetarians, and i love and respect them for this decision so i am willing to try the lifestyle. but i have no clue as to how to cook without dairy.

Soy milk works the same as dairy. Be careful to buy plain for savory stuff (biscuits) and you can use vanilla flavored in sweet recipes(cakes and muffins). If you don't fancy soy, there is rice milk and almond milk out there on the market.

Well to start with vegetarians drink milk. But if you dont like or want to use it most of the time water is a fine substitue!! It will take a little of the flavour out of the meal but it still works. You can also try skim milks/rice milks/soya milks/coconut milks etc. none of these contain any milk products and are fine substitutes.

with the whole vegetarian thing vegetarians still eat eggs and all other dairy product just not any meat products weather it be red or white meats.

water you can replace milk with

Soy, Rice, Almond, Oat, Hazelnut Milks all work great as a substitute for cows milk. You do not have to change the recipe at all. They also add more flavor than just water would.
I too am in TX.. little town outside of Houston. Even when I ate flesh I could not deal with Beef.

Soy milk works for almost everything.

I use rice milk or almond milk in my recipes. I is not made with any animals and no lactose. It works great.

rice milk, Mocha Mix, soy milk, etc.

water

soy milk should work..

rice milk or soy milk
