Do you think a vegetarian diet is cheaper, the same, or more expensive than a diet that includes meat?

I think its cheaper if you take the time to make things from scratch.

I'd say way cheaper for veg, as long as you're not eating analogs frequently. For me, meat analogs are a weekly or bi-weekly food. I eat lots of beans, lots of lentils, lots of chickpeas, lots of potatoes, fresh fruit and veg, and wholegrain pasta. They're way cheaper than meat.

My boyfriend's 5 or 6 servings of meat take up a good 1/3 to 1/2 of our grocery budget. We eat very little processed food, and cook nearly everything from raw veg/tofu and eat lots of rice, pasta or potatoes.

can be cheaper unless you buy into that whole organic crap. i saw 2 liters of organic soy milk for 5 dollars at the grocer the other day. thats outrageous. ill take pesticides over that.

I agree. As long as you don't buy faux meats and TV dinners, vegetarian and vegan diets are much cheaper.

It is cheaper but not by much. The money saved is saved by not being as hungry from all the refined sugars and carbs consumed by packaged foods.

Its cheaper, if you eat raw veggies or cook veggies than meat. meat is like $5 a pound and $20 a pound for prime.

While you can buy all the veggies for seven days worth with the same price

It is for sure cheaper. I find my self eating out less and spending almost half my grocery bill by not buying meat products.

Like you mentioned, I think it depends on what you choose to buy. If you buy processed, packaged soy products, expensive meat substitutes, or eat out alot you may not see a huge price difference. I am a vegan who lives pretty frugally by buying grains, beans, spices etc. from bulk, and I make my own food. This helps the budget quite a bit.

I've never spent as little on groceries as I do now as a vegan. Not only is my food healthier as most of it is home-made, but it's been so easy on my wallet I could afford really nice satellite television and I redecorated our home. Awesome.

I am a student, living of the lowest budget I can

I am 110% sure a Vegetarian diet is cheaper , my almost Vegan diet is very very cheap ( I didn't buy any milk or cheese last term either).

several of my friends have commented on how they wish they could cope without meat to save their budget,

Depends what you buy and eat.

I spend a lot of money on food. I don't cook and I get a lot of carry out. (and mmmmsushi) I also buy a lot of produce, which right now is pretty expensive because it's freezing out.
