What's your favorite way to cook tofu? Is there a way to give firm tofu a more solid consistency? |
I've tried deep-frying, but that seems to negate the health value. Baking is hit-or-miss. xo_hippie_xo ... oooh, I've never tasted it raw before. I'll have to try that. Thank you! Freeze it! Frozen tofu turns brownish (really ugly color), but it is also firmer. It absorbs flavors even *better* than before freezing. i dont really know I HavE NO ReASon to c00k t0fu. i love japanese tofu.......maybe you can fry only the outside my mom does it, try it might be just what you like.....GOOD LUCK!!!! My favourite way to cook tofu is wrapped in bacon, and set atop a nice rare steak. I usually either saute tofu in a stir-fry or I eat it raw, with cooked vegetables poured over it. if you are talking of the kind of tofu that comes in its own liquid, then first you should place it in the middle of an absorbant tea towel and gently squeeze the excess liquid out, then try smearing it with soy sauce (or 'liquid aminos', which is less salty), also try rubbing some curry powder or smoked paprika or barbecue spices on it, even if its a "beech-smoked" type, then fry in a little olive oil till crispy and serve with a small selection of veg eg sliced baby sweetcorn, sliced sweetpeas, fresh parsley, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, add a dash of liquid amino, all bunged in the same pan that you have just taken the tofu out of ...i had it last night and now i want it again!!!!!!!!! you can give firm and extra firm tofu a more chewy, meatlike texture by freezing it while it's still in the original package. I like to defrost it and then sautee it with spices... one of my favorite is curry and and soy sauce. I cook tofu Chinese style--stir fry and with veggies. Or, boil them with plain water, then take them out and let them cool. Mash them, then put vinegar, salt, MSG, and green onion shoots and mix. Delicious! sautee it with veggies and teriyake (sp?) sause on a giddle. it is very yum Hi. pour in a small amount of cement and some water and let set for three hour then bake in a 475 oven. that will give you nice and firm tofu. A small amount of soy should be added for taste. yumyum |
