How can I stop being a vegetarian? Or at least eat a little bit of meat?


Since becoming vegetarian 2 years ago my skin has been breaking out terribly and I am more tired and run down than ever before. I have trouble getting protein (bad reactions to soy and whey) so this is why it's hard for me. I am considering eating a little bit of real meat, because hey, my family will not stop buying meat even I try to convince them, and they often throw it away anyway so why not eat whats left over.

The problem is I don't like eating real meat. I am sure I will probably get sick from eating it for the first time because it happened once before.

So how can I make myself eat meat? I don't plan on eating a lot of it, just enough to get protein and see if my skin clears up from it. Does anyone have any advice for me?

OK, I know fish is very healthy, but its soooo gross. And i can't eat any meat without thinking of a dead rotten animal like eyes all squished out and eww

try to incorporate it into what you eat little by little because lets say your stomach will be sensitive for the first few times.... try deli meats first- sandwiches with balogna or ham or turkey. then move on to chicken which would probbaly be easiest for your stomach to handle. then try fish, tuna, anything seafoodish. then lastly try the red meats-- beef, pork, and anything else your family eats on a regular basis. see what works for you but you must keep in mind to try different meats on different weeks to see what happens with your body as you are trying to consume it. kinda like a baby when you start spoon feeding them gerbers-- you need to see if any allergic or any other type of reaction occurs before you move on to another food group. hope you can achieve it and if not try some sort of acne medication. best of luck to you.

You can get protein from fish. Salmon and tuna are very high in protein and not technically "meat".

When I "devegantarianized" (is that a real word??) and started eating meat again, I started by eating dishes that had meat incorporated into them (think of a stir-fry) and then began eating lean meats, boneless skinless chicken breast and pork loin. How did I justify that you might ask?? Hey, it was either me who was going go get sicker, or I was going to start eating meat again, NOT a hard question, in fact a no-brainer for me......Like everything, moderation is the main thing, you don't want to start with a 24 oz Porterhouse steak and think you're gonna feel great.....start slowly, baby steps and work up from there......and don't forget about ground turkey, I think it's the most bland of the ground meats, but you can flavor it any way you like.....good luck and let us know how you're doing......

The lack of red meat may not be what is causing the breakouts (unless your family eats a lot of it and it's cheap cuts of hormone-laced beef). I've never heard of anyone having acne because of a lack of protein from red meat. Your skin problems and tired/run down feeling has a lot more to do with blood sugar/exercise and other food choices/skin cleanliness and hormones than red meat.

For proteins you might try fish, chicken and turkey products and monitor everything else you are eating.

It sounds to me that you are having health issues. The problems is not the lack of eatting animals products/flesh. It sounds like you need some education on the life & health of a "Veggie". Being healthy is more than not eatting something it is also the quality of what you do eat.

I am just like you. I don't like eating real meat. I love fish, so try salmon or another type of fish. Try a ceser salad with chicken in it. I would stay away from beef or pork for a while, but that is just me.

Your problems are probably a vitamin deficiency. If you get enough calories, you are getting enough protein so you don't really need to worry about that as long as you're eating healthy foods and not just sugary junk.

Zinc deficiency will cause your skin to break out like that. Feeling tired is caused by iron deficiency. Go to a nutrition store and get a vegetarian formula multivitamin. Eating an egg scrambled with spinach and cheese plus a cup of cereal and orange juice (the vitamin C is necessary for iron absorption) for breakfast every morning will help with the iron problem too.

I would start by getting your body used to meat again, use some broth mixed in with mashed potatos, breads and soups that are thinned. As you mentioned you may get sick if try to choke down meat the first time and probably for the first few times. My friend found that chicken works easier for her then the red meats so you may want to start there.

Start off with chicken as you are probably on eggs already so it is the natural advancement from eggs.

Try it in a highly vegecomposed burger ie lots of salad.
Slowly begin to incorporate more.
Try fish also.

What you may want to do is become a pescitarian(just fish).
You will probably be better off as fish has so much good mineral and vitamin.

You should definetly see a doctor because those symptoms are serious, but i think eating meat would help. What happened when you were sick?? And what kind of meat did you eat when you did get sick? I don't think red meat would be the best choice after two years of being vegitarian because it might be hard to get back in your system so try chicken or turkey. Good luck!!

Try eating just some grilled chicken or fish. Nothing too heavy. It shouldn't make you sick, and you'll be getting protein. You might want to also try taking a multi-vitamin everyday.

Pretend its not meat. And well why would you want to eat a poor animal. STUPID HUNTERS!

Have you tried getting protien from beans, nuts, and legumes? This way you don't have to eat meat at all. Also, you can try grilled tofu in tocos, chili, yokisoba, steamed veggies and rice, stir fry, ect. There are plenty of other places to get protien. As for your skin breaking out I don't think that has anything to do with not eating meat. Have you increased your sugar intake since you became vegetarin? This could cause break outs or it could be just a phase. Are you still a teenager? It could have to do with puberty if so.

it is easy to assume that you are not getting enough protein, but that probably isn't true. the notion that vegetarians don't get enough protein is mostly trumped-up.

you probably have some other kind of deficiency. it is probably not due to being veggie, but from not eating balanced meals. vegetarianism is a very healthy way to live, much better than eating meat on most counts, but like everything in life you have to do it properly or it won't work.

see a doctor and a veg-friendly nutritionist and learn ways to balance your meals for optimal intake and absorption. there shouldn't be any need to give up on vegetarianism.

try some broiled chicken or fish, something light.

Have you tried eating peanut butter....or other types of nut butters, Nuts are very high in protein. As well, cottage cheese is pretty high in protein. (lots of cheeses are)
You could also go on-line to the Peta web site and find a whole lot of recipes and still be vegan.
If you are certain you want to resume eating meats I would start out with chicken as it's bland and least likely to make you ill. Some fish dishes are bland as well.
I would stay away from red meats though. As they are the hardest to digest.

And always always always drink a lot of water! The quickest way to clear up your skin is to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Most people do not drink enough water. It's like taking a bath on the inside and will flush out toxins and you will feel better too!
Being dehydrated can make you feel fatigued, dizzy, muscle aches, head aches, cramps....A lot of people go around dehydrated all the time and do not even know it.
