Will I lose weight or get shorter if I become a vegetarian?

I'm around 4 feet and 10 inches now, and almost 14 years old. My parents make me eat meat atleast once a week and they said if I don't grow/gain weight or get smaller I can't become vegetarian.

Your diet has nothing to do with growing. How tall you get depends on your genes. Your parents are giving into vegetarian stereotypes that aren't even based off facts. Just make sure you get a well rounded diet of grains, fruits, veggies, beans, legumes, and limit your sugar intake. Soy and tofu are great and actually help you gain weight. Don't get upset just keep yourself healthy and when you move out of their house you will be allowed to be as healthy as you want. It's sad that your parents don't support your decision to eat healthy.

get shorter? are you nuts you need medicine..

get shorter?
Not if u eat a well-balanced diet. Protein, greens, carbs.

You should be eating meat WAY more often. You shouldn't become a veggie til you are past 18. Don't put your body and health at risk now. Educate yourself girl, and go see a nutritionist.

you may lose about 4 inches. do 33 jumping jacks a day to keep up your height. good luck.

You won't get shorter - height is largely determined by genetics, though a healthy diet (vegetarian or not) helps too.

You lose weight or gain it on how many calories you are taking in and somewhat also on the quality of those calories. So theoretically you could be a vegetarian eating only french fries - and gain weight. You can have a great balanced diet as a vegetarian though - beans, tofu, veggies, fruit, brown rice, yogurt etc.

It all depends on what you actually eat, try this for starters:

I have gained about 40 lbs of muscle since becoming vegan. It all depends on what you actually eat and if your diet is balanced.

being a vegetarian has nothing to do with wieght or height
I know of a family that rasied thier kids vegies and they are average or taller than most.
I also know of some vegies that are overwieght, sounds like you need to educate your folks.
In becoming a vegetarian you have to have a balanced meal cant always be peanut butter and jelly there are many many cook books, buy one and make your folks a vegie meal, good luck

yes both you will probably lose about 25 pounds and 5 to 6 inches of height

lol get smaller???? who the hell told you that? and as for weight it depens what and how much you eat

yes, definitley your bones will not be as strong and you will lose muscle strength, you may shrink a tiny bit too. if you want to become a veg. then I suggest getting extra protein by eating peanuts, peanut butter etc: or take protein pills.

you shoudlnt it you eat right. you should be perfectly healthy, if not more healthy than meat eaters.

I've never heard of anyone growing shorter from being a vegetarian, but depending on your diet, you can actually lose weight. Cutting meats out of your diet means you're not getting the same amount of protein as you got before, but that's not something that can't be fixed. You need protein for growth (among many things), so make sure to find a supplement that provides the necessary daily amount. It is a drastic change, so check with your doctor and your parents if you wanted to make the change. I was a vegetarian and vegan for quite some time, and it helped me slim down, so maybe if you want to gain weight it's not quite for you.

You won't get shorter, but you'll lose weight. My mom became a vegetarian 10 years ago, and she lost 80lbs about a year after she started. I think it's mostly that she stopped eating fast food burgers.

No. I'm vegan and 5'10". :)

You're only 14. Girls don't stop growing completely until they are 18. And if yout parents are relatively short, you probably will be, too. Height is largely based on genetics.
