In what ways can a vegetarian help to abolish factory farming?

Eurgh, I just finsihed a brilliant essay talking about how supporting the extensively-farmed meat industry is not how it should be done, and now my last sentence is .."I think there are other ways this goal can be achieved without animals needing to lose thier lives," ... and I literally can't think of ANY way that we actually can help ... other than, like, protesting. Eurgh, I have to hand this is in 2 hours and then a room full of people will read it ... I want to be able to change their views, but the essay is pointless without something for that last sentence... help!

Its a shame you posted this with 2 hours to go, you missed the chance to get loads of great ideas.

Let us know if you have a longer deadline and we'd be happy to provide lots of ideas.....

education
buy a farm
exposure
rescue commercial animals
buy ethically

+ lots of other ideas but it seesm like we missed the chance

As PETA to join you. Get a big cache of C-4 and start blowing the crap out of factory farms. PETA would like that.

Just by being a vegetarian for a year you save 95 animals lives. That is 95 animals the factory farms wont farm. And by encouraging people to buy from local farms would help with that too.

We can sign petitions, write letters & inform those ppl who *want* to know the truth.
If we're not vegan, we can @ the very least try to make sure that whatever dairy & egg products we consume don't come from factory farms.
Sure, the meat industry probably isn't going away any time soon, but if factory farms are abolished, everyone would benefit-- including ppl who eat meat, b/c it would not be from stressed, drugged or diseased animals. Even though I'd love to see vegetarianism be widely embraced, I'd have some measure of relief in knowing that animals raised humanely would @ least have a better quality of life before slaughter.

well, one of the most effective ways is just not to buy their meat...if you don't buy it there is less of a demand for it, therefore, less animals get slaughtered and end up on dinner plates. statistics say that just one vegetarian saves about 90-100 animals a year.

you can also try protests--join organizations that spread the word (not in a naggy way) and have tons of ideas..

Here's a good example: http://www.farmsanctuary.org/actionalert...

Take undercover video of cruel things going on in factory farms (and processing plants like this foie gras one) and use the video to lead boycotts of their products.

Whoever thumbs-downed me, I want you to know that a live duck's head was literally ripped off by hand by a worker at one point in that video. It's an important boycott.

How are we going to eat them if we don't kill them first?

I hope you spell checked it cause you certainly didn't your post.

Sorry, but it's pointless anyways. Meat eaters aren't going away and that's the cheapest way to meet demand. You are in the minority with your views.

What's an "Eurgh"?
