How much weight can i loose in 5 months by becoming a vegetarian!!?

And when i say becoming a vegetarian i mean doing it the right way not eating loads of pasta etc.

You loose weight by cutting back on calorie intake and exercising more.

I have been a vegetarian for about ten months. I have lost around 15 kilos this year. I credit none of this weight loss to me being vegetarian.

Vegetarianism made me a lot more aware of what I was putting in my mouth, but vegetarianism alone won't guarantee any weight loss. I also worry a bit that you want to become vegetarian for weight loss reasons. You really do have to be careful about watching your diet if you decide to become vegetarian.

I completely agree that in the first few weeks of being vegetarian you feel constantly hungry. Not having meat to fill you up takes a bit of getting used to. Make sure that you don't eat much more than you usually would. You will stop missing meat in your diet before you know it.

Becoming vegetarian does not equal weight loss. In fact usually people gain weight at first because they substitute meat with carbs instead of fruits and vegetables.
Weight gain comes from an excess of calories. It doesn't matter if those calories came from a carrot or a cow.
A healthy vegetarian diet is all about variety, and not just about eating a hamburger with out the patty and a side order of french fries.
Good luck!

LOL

Becoming vegetarian is NOT the only factor in weight loss.

You must consume a low calorie diet that is still well balanced in nutrients. Iron, protein, fibre, vitamins etc.

Small portions. To keep your metabolism active, you should probably eat 5 small meals per day. And drink LOTS of water.

You must exercise. 30min+ of sweaty exercise every day should do it. Whether that be power walking, riding a bike, jogging... etc.

The most healthy way would probably involve 1-2kg loss per week but it's hard to tell... depending on your diet/activity/and natural build as a person. If you want help with a diet/exercise plan, this is what I did for a few months and lost 15kg.

Breakfast: Fruit or freshly squeezed juice + 1 piece of wholegrain toast.

Morning snack: Handful of almonds or a few crackers with dip & alfalfa.

Lunch: Soup [any variety of home made lentil/veggie soup]

Afternoon snack: Carrot, celery & cucumber sticks.

Dinner: A hearty salad. Approx 1/2 raw ingredients and 1/2 cooked.

AND remember - lots of water!!! NO tea or coffee [unless it's herbal tea, like green/chamomile etc].

it depends how much excessive fat food were you consuming. I'm a veg for more than a year, veg for one day, but I still didnt lose any weight. I'm gonna blame all the sweet stuff that I eat. anyway when I went vegetarian, the first thing that I noticed was that I was often still hungry after I ate. so you need to be strong not to eat until your stomach is full and its not really healthy to do this. I hear many people saying about this, that being a veg wont make you to lose weight.

try exercising to lose weight. there are studies saying that you still need to exercise if you are on a diet or not.

and I read another study that says that vegetarians on average consume about 10% to 20% less callories than meat eaters. I think it mostly matters on eating habits. in asia they dont eat bread and they are quite skinny, japan has the highest life expectancy, cause their stomach is smaller and they dont eat that much bread, like europeans and americans do. I love bread, but there's a difference if you experiment eating your food with bread or without bread. I noticed that I was still hungry cause bread usually fills the empty space in my stomach.

Well, even though you say you'll do it 'the right way', there's still plenty of ways that quite innocuous vegetarian solutions to meals can be incredibly fattening. Anything that relies on cheese and cream - and as you've rightly noted, Italian food qualifies for this - is obviously poor for your weight. But also, many vegetable curries - that champion of vegetaran cookery - can prove remarkably oily.

Not only that, there are moments where meat offers rather low-fat options, lower even than more obvious vegetarian equivalents. Luchtime is probably the worst for this: a lean meat sandwich easily outclasses a cheese baguette, or a salad swimmimg in fatty dressing.

So, it doesn't follow that you will lose a great deal of weight, not when, in many meals where lean cuts of meat (skinless chicken, beef steak, and most fish are all great contenders here) are an option, its the carbohydrate portion of a meal that delivers the most calories. Mashed potatoes in butter, oiled psta and even unadorned rice can be quite calorie dense.

However, an article here shows how a sensible approach to vegetarianism (that you've mentioned is your intended direction) can offer you a calorie defecit of approximately 500 per day. That's quite significant. Check out the article here: http://weightloss.about.com/cs/nutrition...

When you switch to a vegetarian diet you will probably be eating more carbs, and carbs make people fat. Unless you restrict your intake of calories or increase your exercise, you will not lose more than a few pounds at the most.

It will vary from person to person. But losing weight is not a reason to become a vegetarian.

It is a well konwen fact that most vegiterians gain more weight than lose.

Harder :20-29
Not Harder:7-13

I lost like 5-10 lbs from being vegitarian (without really trying)

lol i gained 17 pounds when i became vegetarian

I've been a vegetarian for about a year now...I haven't lost any weight..if anything it's kept my weight about the same.

eat lots of fat on a vegan diet and you will be a fatass. very simple.
