How do they make meat products our of soy and tofu?

I tried some soy sausage patties and some chorizo that was meatless(made from soy)..and both really didnt taste nearly as bad as I thought. How do they make meat substitutes out of soy and tofu? Is it good for you? and what do they do to make it that way? thanks!

Tofu and soy are the same thing first of all. Soy has a very versatile consistency, which makes it able to take on almost anyform. Once the soy has the form of the imitation meat, such as soy sausage patties, they just flavor it with the seasonings and spices that they would season the actual sausage patty with.......
am I making sense?

I love that stuff, especially the chorizo. They make it out of wheat and TVP ( textured vegetable protein ).

They add other ingredients, such as spices, seasonings and vegetables. The only substitute meat product I've tried are the veggie burgers. They have whole grains, veggies and rice in them, in addition to soy. The only thing missing flavor-wise is the fat that meat contains, so you might find them a little on the dry side. Otherwise, soy products are good for your health, and a welcome treat for vegetarians who can pretend they're eating the real thing, and not have a guilty conscience.

They also use wheat gluten, I like it better because it really holds taste and texture when your trying to make a "mock" meal.

they are great arent they? i luv em..infact wouldnt live without them lol im a vegetarian going on 2 years and whenever my famiy eat meat i simply have a vegge patty or something like tht...these days they can make things taste like just about anything its really interesting...and yes most all soy products are very healthy for you..they have protein and tonnes of other goodies in them and the best oart is they taste great

I love everything veggie made from Tofu.
The prepackaged things like the soy sausage patties are better for you but should still be viewed as junkfood and eaten everyonce in a while. Twice a week three times at the most. All the processesed things in those foods aren't so great for you. They are 10 times better for you than the real thing though.

I have no idea how they make those products.
Soy magic.

They use TVP to get the product to feel like meat. Which is texturized vegetable protein. You can buy it almost anywhere and add your own spices and poof you have the same thing.
