Can I sell my book of recipes without using a publisher?

It is a book of simple vegetarian recipes that I wish to print and put up for sale - say on the web somewhere. Can anybody tell me if this is possible?

I don't see why not.... just make sure you know that everyone gets sued these days and try not to leave yourself open to that... make sure to post the address where you are selling them... I know you aren't supposed to... but I'm always in the market for new ideas.
good luck

Yes do it mail order and advertise the book.

No you would need to have it copyrighted and published..It only takes one person to copy the recipe and then sue you for using their recipe if its not since you didn't copyright it.

No unfortuntely you would need to have it copyrighted and published it only takes 1 person to copy the recipe and then sue you for using their recipe if its not since you didn't copyright it

You don't need to do any of that stuff.

1. Get some recipes together (yours/ friends/ adapted one from the telly/ book/ internet etc)

2. type them up/ write them out/ do a front cover/ stick some pictures in/ whatever you want.

3. Take them to a copy-shop/ workplace photocopier/ laser printer/ friendly neighbourhood scribe/ monk/ wherever to get them copied.

4. Start selling them at vege fairs/ vegan events/ zine swaps/ local indi book shops/ news agents/ wholefood stores.

5. Just make sure you charge enough to cover your costs and good luck with it

6. Congratulations, you've joined the indi publishing world.

Now, some people will tell you that you need to copyright your recipes. You don't they're yours, and heck, if people copy them, that's good isn't it? more people are eating the food you like!

If someone tries to sue you for using their recipe, than make sure you've adapted it. (add an extra spice/ herb couple of grams of flour, stuff like that).

If someone copies you then sues them for using their recipe, tell them they're an idiot, it's your recipes. If you're really paranoid, stick a copy of the book in a sealed envelope, mail it to yourself and keep it sealed as proof of the date you wrote the book.)

(I'm sure they're people on the books and authors page who can help you out more...)

good luck!

Yes, you can self-publish. As long as the recipes are TOTALLY original and created by you. But.... there are millions and millions of wonderful, free recipes on the internet. I'm always looking for new recipes, but with the millions that are free on the internet, I'd never pay for them. I doubt you'd have much luck on the web. A nicely bound book that people have to go to a bookstore to buy would be much better... somethiing they can look through and decide if it's worth buying. And copyrights are important as well.
