What are some good clothing substitutes vegans use, rather than wool, leather, suede, etc? |
And how do the costs compare between the animal products and the non-animal alternatives? I'm asking this mainly in regards to shoes... especially during winter months. This is where we get our shoes from, it'llgive you an idea of the ranges and prices: For wool, there's polar fleece, which is relatively inexpensive and not allergy-inducing. For leather and suede, there's pleather. Pleather's not terribly expensive. cotton is good. Also I have seen clothing made out of organic materials and dyed different colors with plant based dyes. These items(except for the cotton) cost more mainly because of the newness of the items. I know of a bunch of hippies that use nekkid. The backs of my legs.....sticking to the pleather!!!!! There are quite a few fake suede's and pleathers out there - Cheaper than the real thing. Vinyl may run you higher depending on the maker. Hemp cotton hemp and bamboo Some of the shoes made out of fake leather are actually cheaper. Usually there's a sticker on the bottom of the shoe that will tell you if it's "all man made products" even if it looks more or less like leather. It depends if you are willing to pay big bucks for materials that won't last in comparison to "traditional" materials. cotton, tencel, polyester? silk, rayon paper bags. Bananna leaves they grow themselves. LOL What's wrong with wool? The sheep don't die, they just get hair cuts! |
