Are there any clubs or support groups in Seattle where I can learn how to be vegan?

I am in Seattle and I want to become a vegan. I need more than just recipes. Is there some kind of group or club where someone can come alongside me and show me the ropes?

Vegan Represent is a website that has forums and message boards with people from any city, and Seattle one city, I know, that has MANY vegans. People here can "show you the ropes" and help you along your way to a new lifestyle. Good luck to you!

Just because something is vegan does not mean it is healthy, so beware! Processed foods, are processed foods, they are unhealthy and full of garbage. If you want to be healthy stick to making things on your own, and staying away from pasta, white rice, and bread.

You don't need someone right there with you to be able to do it (although it might help). You'll want to learn what animal products are commonly used in, the words to look for in foods and other products, great vegan options in restaurants, where to shop for ready-made foods, and also how to get proper nutrition. Load up on protein rich foods like beans and tofu, start loving avocados, and make sure your diet is balanced.

Try buying Animal Products A-Z, a book that lists all kinds of animal ingredients/products so you know what to look for and start to gain and understanding of how animal products are used and in what. It's cheap and small.

Buy vegan cookbooks that have good prefaces in them and give you good basic information. Environmental groups and food co-ops/natural food stores generally have lots of information too.

Vegweb.com is a kinda fun place to get recipes.

Here are some awesome vegan products (besides the obvious like pasta, tofu, veggies, fruit, etc).
Tofutti Pizza (tastes like Elios, heheh).. They also make vegan cheese slices.
Earth Balance Margarine
Enjoy life foods is an allergy safe company and they don't use milk or eggs since they're such allergenic substances.
Soy Ravioli (Soyboy makes good ones!)
Follow Your Heart makes vegan "cheeses" that melt! <33333
Vegenaise makes an awesome Mayo substitute (I way prefer it to Nayonaise)
There are TONS of vegan dessert options in stores like Wholefoods and Wild Oats.
Roads End Organics makes mac n "chreese" with a nutrional yeast cheese substitute

You also want to think of the products you buy-- making sure they don't engage in animal testing nor do they contain animal products. When you're buying new clothes you have to think about it too.

I don't know if it possible to private message on here, but if you want more information about veganism I'll gladly share :)

Try going to http://www.thevegetariansite.com, vegan.org, or any number of other sites to get basic informatino. (Those are easy to deal with and accessible).

And I <3 Herbivore magazine.
Good luck and congrats on an awesome choice

proably check a community bulletin board

Try www.veggieboards.com
