What is the best way to learn to eat veggies if I have never really done so before? |
I have a hard time getting past the texture of lettuce ( makes me gag) and the flavor of alot of other veggies (tomatos, carrots, etc;). Any advice yall can give me I would appreciate. You just have to go about it with an open mind and start trying all manner of different vegetables. Try all different kinds and get a taste for different things to see which ones you like. Read up about what tastes great prepared how. You don't have to like all vegetables, but once you know what you do like, you'll be able to cook those (or eat them raw) and enjoy them while you enjoy the fact that you're eating veggies! Do you like spicy foods? I recently made a stir-fry with lots of red chili peppers, ginger and garlic and it was so spicy you could hardly taste all the veggies. well its quite hard to do that believe me but I think you have to change your thinking while ready to eat the vegies..before eating if we think of the specific taste than it is the same we will feel. Try to begin eating them in your favorite foods. try cooking them differently (steaming them makes them soft and tender and is easy to do), and buy locally grown "Fresh" stuff. You are probably talking about that stuff they serve at restaraunts that tastes like cardboard... right. Anyways if you can try growing some of your own veggies and get the best (most nutrient dense) vegetables as possible. mix them in a blender and make a soup with it? dip em in fat free chocolate syrup ^_^.. or melt ur fav chocolate, dark or milk choco.. Try the meat alternatives such as veggie burgers, or chic-patties/ nuggets, garden burger ribs and breakfast burrito's, and fake ground beef. You might also want to look at the kinds of lettuce you are getting. I can't stand iceburg. I get Romaine only. I hated vegetables when I was growing up and it's no wonder - almost everything my mother served was frozen and boiled or from a can. Fresh veggies are the way to go! Try reading some books on how healthful natural food diets are and how a lot of processed foods are prepared (I just finished "Twinkie, Deconstructed" that was EXCELLENT - it'll make you appreciate unadulterated foods!). I'm also a fan of the Fit for Life books, even if I don't follow every bit of advice to a T - it does prompt you to start thinking differently about food. When you cut and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables it just FEELS right - I know that sounds corny, but it's true! |
