How can I get enough protein as a vegetarian? |
I want to be sure I'm getting enough protein. It is hard for me to work enough protein in my diet. Does anyone know of a book with some good information, maybe even suggested meal plans? Very common question that I've answered many time with some pretty good answers I think, if you'd care to read... hm, they are hard to find: Some good info for you: Beans, nuts...are you a vegetarian that eats fish or no? If so, fish is an excellent source of protein, especially salmon. Plus, salmon has the Omega-3 factor that women need. Now that I think of it, so do nuts. Also, try butters too. Peanut butter, cashew butter, almond butter. Almond butter is my favorite. Second is cashew butter. I'm not a peanut fan. Well, I hope this helped a little. Good Luck and Happy Eating!! dont be a vegetarian Have you ever tried tempeh, because it's great and it's loaded with protein. You can get it out of the health food store, and several grocery stores as well. it's made from fermented soy beans which is better for your body to digest than tofu. I fry mine in a little olive oil and liquid aminos (or soy sauce it you don't have the liquid aminos) and it taste great when it get's a little crunchy around the edges. Fish and peanuts take my advice i am also vegetarian! if you don't want to eat tofu or don't ;like nuts Rice, beans and corn make a complete protein. Soy products have tonns of protein and if you eat eggs and milk products include them in your diet. They are very high in protein too... As do nuts go to your health food store and ask for "quinoa"..pronounced "keenwa"...it is an ancient grain from the spinach family ....100% protien....cook by boiling and add just about anything...I curry mine, or tomato cauce.... Beans, Nuts, any soy products have protein. also you might be surprised that pasta has considerable weight in protein as well. Fruit has a little too. It all adds up. If you're just looking for a daily average, then you won't need as much as you might be thinking. |
