Has anyone else noticed the new trend of restaurant salads all containing meat? |
There's something wrong when you go to a restaurant as a vegetarian and you can't even order a salad that doesn't have meat on it. I know I could ask for it without the meat, but then I'm just paying a ridiculous price for it (they don't take that into consideration on the bill). It really is just stupid consumers. Oh, I know. Whatever happened to a garden salad? My granny took me out to lunch at Perkins (her favorite) and I thought, well, at least I can get a salad. The closest I could have come with an entree salad would have been the BLT chicken salad, minus the chicken, bacon and cheese (that's lettuce and tomatoes, basically). I ended up with a side salad made out of iceberg lettuce, lol. What's really laughable (or not) is how fast-food restaurants offer salads as a "healthy" option, and they're even worse than the sandwiches because the dressings are loaded with fat and sugar, and there's all this meat and cheese on the salad. But McDeathburger and Murder King can pretend they're offering healthy options because you can get a salad there. Most "House Salads" (side salads) are meat free. You can always order them, or even 2 if you are real hungry. I have plenty of times. Calm down...most restaurants I go to that are offering the salad with chicken, beef or whatever is appealing to those that want a healthy one plate meal. They do also offer a house salad for much less money which is strictly veggies, or you can choose the salad bar and make your own. i was at dannys and the only thing i could order was BLT, with no beacon and no mayo, i'm not really sure if the bread is vegan but there no other food around, this was years ago. LOL (I know it's not really funny... but for some reason it just makes me laugh... how inconsiderate the world it) Any good rest. should make a price adjustment servers sometimes just don't ask, if you have a problem then just ask to speak to a manager. I think they're trying to make main meals out of salads these days. And you're right...it's not fair that you have to pay extra for no meat, and we meat eaters have to pay more to add it. I was a veg back in '85-'87 and it was even harder then. I am a chef and just added a delicious crispy chicken salad to my menu, hope it goes over well. Yeah I've noticed that too... I've also noticed something else--many fancy, high-end restaurants are serving their salads with GRAPES in it... to me, that's just GROSS. I know! Why do they feel the need to mess up a perfectly good salad? AGHHH! I'm a little confused as well. I'm not a vegetarian, but generally when I opt for a salad I'm looking for something healthier. What's the point of getting a fried chicken or pepper crusted steak and bleu cheese salad anyway? If I want steak I want steak, if I want a salad I want a salad. The world is growing wise to cheap vegetarians and obnoxious vegan that take up a lot of space provide no revenue for them and leave a 2% or no tip for their wait staff. I think this is a perfect example of how our society - especially in America - likes to ruin a perfectly healthy dish. We preach and preach about how obese our nation is and everyone goes on these crazy diets, and in the meantime we take all these great, healthy dishes and add breaded, fried chicken and steak and stuff to them. CAN I JUST HAVE A REGULAR SALAD PLEASE? lol! i don't think it's a current trend, i mean, every restaurant that i've been to is kind of like that. i think it's more of a trend to start piling a million things in a salad regardless if they're healthy or not (like this steak salad i've seen on commercials a lot). it's a marketing strategy to pump up restaurants' salads by putting some lettuce under a normal dish and calling it the "healthy" option. Could it be the natural order of life. |
